Ticketmaster cancelling our tickets but tour still going ahead !

Apologies, this is my first time posting!

Around two years ago I purchased two tickets to see Diana Ross as a present. Originally planned for July 2020 this was then postponed to July 2021 and finally 2022.

However, today I received an email stating that the tickets had been cancelled but we would receive a refund...not ideal but understandable given the situation. Understandable until I read at the bottom of the email that if you’d still like to see Diana Ross in 2022 then tickets could be repurchased.

Originally paying around £160 a ticket previously, the exact same tickets are now £261 each! Shock Surely this is not right, they can’t cancel my ticket for a tour that is still going ahead and make people repurchase their tickets with a hundred pound increase??

Someone get Martin Lewis on the phone Grin

Were your tickets for either Jul 14 in Manchester or Jul 15 2021 in London. Unlike the other dates, TM shows these as cancelled. If so, then what I think is going on is that there were originally two London and two Manchester shows but one show at each venue was cancelled outright, the other rescheduled, so you're seeing available tickets from the latter.

The ticket prices being so high now...TM always hikes the price in whichever seating area is the most popular for that gig and claims it's about giving genuine fans access the best seats. Yeah, yeah...

Annoying and it would put me off. I wonder with this kind of thing whether the artists know? From what a pp has posted, they've shelved a couple of concerts so have hiked the price for the remaining ones. They'll have the same set up costs, etc.

Wow that’s shocking!! I’d be pissed off too, I’ve had quite a few concert tickets moved from 2020 but they’re all just moved to the new date if it’s rescheduled not being asked to buy them again

That’s pretty shocking.
I have had very expensive lion king tickets rescheduled 3 times and is now late 2022
but not paying any extra. Even though I wouldn’t be surprised at all that any spare tickets going for those dates will be sold at considerably more.

If the tour is going ahead but with less dates at the stadiums, then I think it’s probably “fair”. I mean, bitter pill to swallow and I wouldn’t pay £260 a ticket thanks but no thanks - but it’s probably not anything you can complain about.

Nothing surprises me with Ticketmaster. Ive got two gigs now postponed till 2022. Will see for how long they put these gigs back. I asked for a refund for one and surprise didn't get it as gig has been postponed, not cancelled. I had already limited going to gigs pre Covid, as they are having a laugh with ticket prices. Then, if you have to travel to see the artiste. You have hotel, travel and food costs. I decided Id rather put the money towards a holiday. Ticket prices have been a rip-off for years. I had wanted to see Cher pre- Covid, just could not afford the kind of money they were asking. I bet they use Covid as an excuse to put prices up even further.

It’s also happening with match tickets for Euro 2020, which starts in 3 weeks. Many tickets booked two years ago have been cancelled this week (due to reduced capacity) but hospitality tickets are available to purchase at a much higher price and sponsors are still advertising lots of tickets as competition prizes.
Some tickets for the final are being cancelled even though restrictions on capacity are currently scheduled to be over by then.
