Utterly unreasonable woman in Lidl

I had a nearly trolley load of stuff today and the queue was quite long so I decided to let the 2 people behind me who only had small baskets go in front of me as most likely they'd have got through before I'd finished unloading onto the belt.

The woman who was behind them whose trolley was full to overflowing immediately started complaining in a VERY LOUD VOICE to her husband about "idiots who let people queue jump so that WE have to wait longer and why hasn't she let US in front as well"

I didn't say a word but quietly seethed. Lovely lady who who I'd just let in front turned round and said "Look love we were in front of you anyway so the only person who waits longer is this lady so leave it out"

I felt like to giving her a round of applause.

I've been quite stressed lately about a number of things and was so close to giving her a piece of my mind - very grateful other lady did it for me or who knows what I've had said...

PS Is it me or have Lidl prices gone up - bought about the same as usual and it seemed to be about £15 more :(

I wouldn't have seethed, I'd have audibly snorted at her ridiculousness.

Good on that woman, need more people like her.

mygee · 21/05/2021 16:47

What a knob. She had three people in front of her no matter what order they were in, makes no difference to her waiting time.

Anoisagusaris · 21/05/2021 16:49

She’s obviously a bit thick if she couldn’t work out that it made no difference to how long she had to wait.

TooMinty · 21/05/2021 17:00

I always let people ahead of me, I usually have a giant trolley full and feel bad making the person behind who just has a couple of things wait so long. My shopping has been more expensive recently too, I can't tell if prices have gone up or if I am putting more middle aisle rubbish in my trolley...

AuntieDolly · 21/05/2021 17:05

I wish they had self service or an express checkout - it's so stressful

toocold54 · 21/05/2021 17:28

She sounds like a twat some people will find anything to moan about. They’re obviously just unhappy in their own lives!

Well done to the lady for saying something as it probably made her feel like an idiot and well done for biting your tongue as it showed you as the bigger, better person.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 21/05/2021 17:34

Well done to you, and well done to the woman who spoke up for you. I would always do this for people in Aldi - it seems to be a more accepted etiquette in the shops with really fast check-outs, I've noticed. There used to be 2 Polish check-out operators at my local Aldi who would race each other! (Where'd they go? Sad)

singsingbluesilver · 21/05/2021 17:34

Some people are just thick. It is a very nice gesture to let people ahead of you.

I agree about the price hike too. I can't even pin it down to which items have gone up but I am certainly paying more in Lidl than I was. Also, my Lidl has had no Pepsi Max in bottle for months and it is so blumming expensive everywhere else.

We have self service in our lidl. It’s quite a new build though, only completed last year
Flowers500 · 21/05/2021 17:47

I would have made some nice comments about the declining standards in maths education and how crucial numerical literacy is. Thick bitch!

Theunamedcat · 21/05/2021 17:49

Critical thinking is clearly not her strong point feel blessed your braincells are not as lonely as hers

listsandbudgets · 21/05/2021 17:59

You're all making me smile. Normally, I'd have said something myself but I was in such a bad / stressed ./ irritable mood to start with, I'd probably have ended up being really unpleasant hence biting my tounge.

I just couldn't comprehend how she worked out it was an inconvenience to her!! I nearly always let people with baskets go ahead if I've got a large trolley - why should they hang around with bread, milk and a couple of ready meals while I unload and reload a fortnight's shopping?

My local Lidl has the self service checkouts. I tried them once and it took aaaages. The guy had to coming over to reset the machine. Defeated the purpose of Lidl checkouts entirely!😂

Please don't use that phrase, its highly offensive.

Agreed, no need to use a long offensive word when arseholes will cover it.
Overdon · 21/05/2021 19:25

I must admit I find the checkout experience at ALDI/ Lidl really stressful, it’s just so high pressured, long queues not enough checkouts.
I got tutted at by the checkout operator when I didn’t shift quick enough! I was heavily pregnant at the time, haven’t been back since.

MangosteenSoda · 21/05/2021 19:35

OP you win my admiration by managing a loaded trolley at the Lidl checkout. Those checkout staff are lightning fast. I break into a sweat trying to haul my stuff off the end of the till without there being an embarrassingly long pause.

I used to live in Germany where the checkout staff would just start to scan the next person’s groceries as soon as they finish scanning yours. I have flashbacks and mild PTSD from that Grin

ExJasper · 21/05/2021 19:52

It's a kind thing to do op and I'm sorry you've been in a bad mood lately.

I've had the same happen to me. I let someone go in front of me (think it was also at Lidl!) and the woman behind me said "you may not be in a rush but some of us are". I didn't bother saying anything!

EveningOverRooftops · 21/05/2021 19:53

I had a lady the other day, same shop chain, get arsey with me and DC for not social distancing. We were, we hadn’t moved an inch in the queue and couldn’t move back. She was the one who kept moving forwards then backwards then forwards again so wherever we stood she made sure we weren’t able to distance. She should’ve moved forward and stayed put.

It seems lidl attracts a lot of arseholes…. OR the queue just build up long enough for the arseholes to reveal themselves Hmm

tentosix · 21/05/2021 20:31

People are arseholes.

Woman in Morrisons said it was to get behind her in the queue as I went to an empty checkout. I didn't but went further along to the self service. I don't shop there often so wondered if there was a rule you just queued and the first person took the first available checkout. Looking along the tills this wasn't the case. Should have told her to fuck off
