Going into London for a nice lunch with husband, first time since baby was born so really looking forward to it. The weather is awful so our plan for a walk after is off. Any suggestions? Lunch is in shoreditch.

Whitechapel Gallery or Tate Modern. I think you need to book timed tickets for them.

Spitalfields

Museum of London - book free timed tickets

Check out the Barbican Centre too.

I would avoid the big free museums at the weekends - only because they are perfect to take kids to!! I would look for a smaller gallery - there are a few around Shoreditch...maybe Whitechapel - you could have a mooch in Spitalfields on the way, or The Guildhall Gallery and Amphitheatre (doesn't reopen until June I don't think), or the London Mithraeum.

Sir John Soane's Museum. Tiny but perfect.

I went in the 70s: heaven.

In 2016, still lovely, but arseholey attendants/Rottweilers. Not even they can spoil it, though I hope they've raised their game.
