Has anyone here had their roof replaced?

We need a new roof and need a hand hold. I'm nervous about choosing the wrong contractor and it all going horribly wrong. I don't trust checkatrade or local Facebook recommendations and don't know anyone who has had a replacement roof. There's a well established family firm locally who seem to have a good name, but I couldn't find them listed on the NFRC website. Is that important?

We used the well established family firm, know where he lives & it turns out the older man a couple of doors down said he’s known the family years -great!
He’s done a lovely job, it looks fantastic, tidy worker & very organised but.........there’s a rattle above our bedroom window when it’s windy. He’s been back twice & says he has no clue what the issue is, I want to cry every time it’s windy as it keeps me awake all night and the old roof never did that (it leaked but it didn’t rattle!). He’s aware it’s still happening and next time it’s blowing will come inside and listen. He must think I’m a PITA but I’m not paying ££££ & living with it.

I also can’t see him on the NFRC site. However there is another company local to us who’s name is mud because of the appalling work his team does. I’d go with the well established firm who seem to have a good name if I couldn’t get recommendations I suppose. It’s so hard isn’t it?
