What do your 13 year old boys wear?

So my son has joined a club tonight, prior to going he got upset as he couldn't find anything he wanted to wear.
I've said I'll take him shopping but we have no idea what other boys his age are wearing.
He's only just started going out and about, into town on a Saturday, cinema and that sort of thing.
I don't have a huge budget for brands but could mix brands with other stuff maybe?
Do I buy jeans? Joggers/trackies? I'm stuck!
Thanks

I work in a school that doesn’t have a uniform and the yr 8&9 boys (and most other years) all seem to wear tracksuit bottoms and trainers with a sweatshirt or t shirt.
Usually sports brands like Nike or puma. Less so Adidas. Trainers usually Nike especially the Air Force 1’s.
A couple wear more designer items like stone island or Ralph Lauren bits it’s Nike for the most part.
This is in a affluent town in the south east.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 20/05/2021 19:25

Not all Nike stuff is expensive. Especially if he can fit in the kids stuff still. Also look at places like sports direct. And the Nike site often has good discount codes or items heavily reduced.
Stick to plain black/grey with just the tiny tick.

If your son is not concerned about brands and he has a nice set of friends that don’t pick on each other for wearing them wrong thing you can mix and match more expensive branded hoodies and t shirts with plain items from places like H&M and even primark. Just the plainest of plain though. Although some are partial to the black and grey camo print.

My dresses as per pp, lots of tracksuits (he gets one for his birthday and one for Christmas, they're not cheap!
With less money I'd get unbranded joggers (with nothing to say where they're from) or jeans, and a hoodie with a logo.
However that's the style where we are, could you keep an eye out in your own area and study the teens? (Without looking stalkerish!)

Try eBay if you're on a budget. There's a whole ton of kids that have barely worn their good clothes because of growth spurts. I've had a lot of bargains there with clothes even my son approved of!

Hoppinggreen · 20/05/2021 19:28

Joggers, anime Tshirts and Champion hoodies mostly
He likes Uniqlo and it’s pretty reasonable, he’s 5ft 8 and fits a men’s S

Hellocatshome · 20/05/2021 19:30

Is he into sports wear or more of a jeans type guy? My just turned 14 year old is sporty so he wears Nike practically head to toe, some Champion and Adidas. Top tip is go for plain track pants (the tight fit ones not baggy ones) to keep the budget down then spend the money on a few branded T-shirts and 1 or 2 decent hoodies.

Shinesun14 · 20/05/2021 19:31

Tracksuits and airforce ones are my 14yr old ds and his friends uniform.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 20/05/2021 19:33

Joggers, t shirts, hoodies and trainers.
Nike, Champion, North Face,

WellTidy · 20/05/2021 19:35

My DS isn’t remotely into clothes, but he and his friends wear joggers (I buy the own brand skinny ones in Next as Ds isn’t at all brand conscious) and tops or sweatshirts from Gap. Ds is an XL in the boys range (which is smaller than average) in Gap but they do an XXL too.

ALevelhelp · 20/05/2021 19:37

I've got 2 sons aged 12 and 17

Both generally wear joggers (which I hate) and T-shirt's/hoodies.

DS1 likes branded stuff, but can afford to as he earns - so Ralph Lauren, Boss, Tommy Hilfiger. We live relatively close to a couple of those designer outlets so he picks up "bargains" from there

DS2 would like all of the above but he can run and jump for itGrin, so unless he gets his brothers hand me downs he usually wears Adidas, Nike, Champion.

JD sport are normally quite good for a 2 for deal on plain T-shirt's and depending on the size of your 13 year old (my 12 year old is giant sized for his age) a lot of the junior brands come up to aged 15/16 - fair bit cheaper than Adults

ASOS are also great assuming he is into adult sizes, they have all of the above brands quite often on a decent discount. I think they are last season but who cares?! Keep an eye out for 20% off everything evenings, they are very frequent!

Ducksurprise · 20/05/2021 19:37

I don't mean this unkindly but ask him, he knows. The fact that he says he has nothing to wear is a sign he knows what he wants to wear, he just might feel awkward as he knows they are expensive or just isn't very good at articulating what he wants (typical teen boy)
I agree with ebay but get him involved, what looks exactly the same to me isn't to a teenager, also sports direct has good offers. Primark has its place for basics so you can spend a bit more on something else. Where I am the expensive item is trainers.

ALevelhelp · 20/05/2021 19:38

Amazon are also good for joggers, usually cheaper than the sports shop too

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 20/05/2021 20:04

Thankyou all. He does have a few Adidas bits and trainers.
With tracksuits do they wear them as a tracksuit lol or as separates?
His dad passed away when he was 5 and I'm clueless with this ( obviously)!

Skinny jeans or joggers and hoodies …all monochrome in this house - one of my kids like Nike ones not bothered - Next and H& M are my go tos

My boys don't like matching, they might buy the joggers and the matching hoody/jacket, but neither would ever wear them together, Esp DS1.

Ooh yes H&M is a good shout! We've had some nice slim leg joggers from there. They do quite good sports stuff, plain hoodies etc
MissyB1 · 20/05/2021 20:07

My ds is 12 nearly 13. He wears joggers not bothered in the least by brands, t shirts (he insists on plain colours with no pictures/ logos etc and he also likes denim jogger jeans. I get nearly all his clothes from H&M, with odd bits from sports shops.

Bvop · 20/05/2021 20:08

Supermarket jeans / joggers with branded tops.

TokyoSushi · 20/05/2021 20:09

DS is only 10, but quite fashion conscious already, he wears a lot of Nike/Adidas, the type of tracksuit bottoms that are a bit like leggings. For tops he'll either wear the matching top, same shiny type of material or a hoodie/sweatshirt. Sports Direct is a good place to start for a reasonable budget, smaller logos rather than a massive Nike across the front or whatever seem to be preferred too.

AlwaysLatte · 20/05/2021 20:13

My son's go-to are blue jeans, slim fit T shirt (he has some plain navy/black/burgundy ones that are really nice silky cotton from H&M) and a pullover navy Nike hoodie. Black Nike trainers (white airforce ones for good weather). He's quite simple in his tastes, no big designer stuff, thankfully!

AlwaysLatte · 20/05/2021 20:17

Ditto the matching - he hates anything that does!
He loves to wear joggers/lounge pants but never goes out in them, always changes into slim jeans if he goes out.

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 20/05/2021 20:33

Thankyou all! Blush
