Smartphone for 11 year old

My son currently has a Spacetalk watch but looking to upgrade to a smartphone for his birthday. I found the Monqi on internet matters.org which sounded amazing, similar to the watch but in a phone, but can't seem to find it to buy anywhere. Are there any other phones out there aiming to be child safe like that one with an app for the parent to manage the phone?

Is he going to secondary in September? It may be worth thinking about a normal smartphone. You may want to check if the school recommends certain apps, DD has some for arts and they are allowed to use the phones in lessons for searches and for languages. Will that phone you look at work with such apps?

DD’s is linked to DH’s Apple account, she cannot download apps on her own, can’t do in-app purchases. There are lots of ways to limited screen time and set parental controls.

I found your phone at Tesco mobile, we had good experience with Tesco for DD’s first phone.

He'll be year 6 when he gets it so doesn't need it for school yet (well actually there are apps he could use that he uses my phone for, for school), it's mostly for a couple of activities he does and to contact us when he's with grandparents or one of us is working away, I wanted him to get used to looking after a phone and want the tracking and some apps, but not internet. Loved the idea of an app that manages his usage!

Tesco don't have the Monqi in stock, seems to be really hard to find not sure if they still even do.
