To be worried about this dream

5 replies

I had a dream last night that I had lung cancer and I'm so worried and scared.

I have recently undergone some tests ( not relating to lungs or cancer) which has been a really stressful/anxious time. Tests have come back clear including chest X-ray but this dream had really frightened me. Would AIBU to contact gp? But I wouldn't know what to say? Maybe about my anxiety?
Any advice please

I think if you've been undergoing tests then it's inevitable you may feel anxious, that can then go into your dreams, I think that's quite normal. I don't think it's a premonition if that's what you mean, but you could always seek a second opinion for reassurance I guess? Flowers

The dreams are just your sub-conscious’s way of processing the stress of these tests. Anxiety can do really weird things to your dreams.

The tests were clear, so I don’t think you need to worry any more. {{{hugs}}}

Sorry you're feeling so anxious, it's an awful feeling. Have you been feeling anxious in general for a while with all the stressful tests or is it mainly today since this dream? Contacting the gp might be a good idea, I had cbt through a talking service that you could self refer to in my area, other areas you might need a gp to refer you. Anyway, it really helped me with techniques to calm down when I was worrying all the time and having a lot of physical anxiety symptoms. Health anxiety is a common anxiety and your gp will be able to reassure you and assess how you're doing.

Thank you for replies.
I've always suffered with anxiety but since a recent health scare it has just spiralled out of control. I'm currently prescribed propranolol for panic attacks. It probably is my anxiety but this dream just worried me. I'm currently on waiting list for CBT
