No transition day for current year 6

Not sure if this is in the right place but just wanted to share how sad I’m feeling about no transition day for my son in year 6.

He’s going up to this secondary alone and I was really hoping he would at least get one day to spend at his new school. Received a letter to inform us the transition is going to be online.

We have never stepped foot in this school as we couldn’t look round either due to covid. Just gutted for him :(

Anyone else’s transition day been cancelled?

That’s such a shame for your son.

My son’s has been rescheduled to 22nd June as long as the road map is followed. So not been cancelled (as of yet!)

Belfastbird · 20/05/2021 08:53

Ours is due to go ahead in July. Hope they review the situation for you

Chillychangchoo · 20/05/2021 09:05

Judging from the online transition and the transition booklet he has been given I’m pretty sure it’s a done deal for him.

Just so gutted for him 😢

Hope your children’s days still manage to go ahead 👍

Mine isn't having rendition day as such, but is being invited in one Saturday to sit some tests to put them into sets.

They have one other child from their class going to the same secondary, but haven't visited the school or anything.

@purpledagger

I know he won’t be the only one. Just disappointed as we did initially have a date for him to go up in July for the day. I presume Indian variant has put a stop to it.

I just think for me personally today everything just seems to have come to a head. Won’t bore you with the details but covid has literally turned our lives upside down (redundancies, job changes) etc etc. I know it’s the same for a lot of people but I think this was just the icing on the cake today.

Just one of those days for me I think, feeling low 😢😢😢

DS2's has just been cancelled too. Sounds like the school will get the Y7s in a day or two early in September, so they can get to know their way around before all the bigger ones turn up. Hope yours does the same Chillychangchoo - it's better than nothing. Flowers

Ds had his cancelled last year. He started his new school in Sept after six months at home and never having set foot in the place. He was fine. Everyone was in the same boat.

Try not to worry Flowers

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 20/05/2021 09:46

We had a school visit last year, had to book an appointment and have a one to one look around with the deputy head.

He's still got an experience day in July. Parents have a meeting in the evening the same day with the headteacher for a chat and questions, buy uniforms etc.
Fingers crossed it still goes ahead.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 20/05/2021 09:50

My DD had hers cancelled last year but like a PP her school changed the arrangements in the September so the year 7s had the whole building to themselves for a whole day to get settled in before the rest of the school returned. It is a shame but all the kids at his school will be the same and they will all be fine.

thesugarbumfairy · 20/05/2021 09:51

I'm really hoping mine gets one. I emailed the school to ask but they said they'd let us know after half term. He's never seen the school as obviously they didn't get an open day either.

Chillychangchoo · 20/05/2021 09:54

Yes fingers crossed they get the year 7s in for a day on their own in September that would be great.

I know he’s going to be fine. Thank you all.

Just dragging on all of this isn’t it? Seems never ending.

Flowers for you OP, I would be worrying too.

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 20/05/2021 09:58

Ours is still going ahead in July, he has 3 days for some reason. We never had a day in July when I was at school, we just started a day before the rest of the school in September which seems like a better system to me.

onemouseplace · 20/05/2021 10:01

Ours is in early July, but presumably contingent on 21 June going ahead, otherwise it'll be online.

I'm sure they'll be fine, but it is disappointing. They meet their form and the PTA get numbers so they can meet up in the summer a couple of times. Plus I wanted to get some second hand uniform, so it if doesn't go ahead, we'll have to buy all new which is annoying!

WishIWasSomewhereElse · 20/05/2021 10:02

I'm sorry to hear that, it is my fear.

I live in Bucks, in a town where they had surge testing, after a cluster of Indian variant, but only a small area), as far as I'm aware my daughter's school is still having two days of transition in July, but some of her classmate's school is online.

H1978 · 20/05/2021 10:05

Dd3 won’t be having hers too and she’s my last so pretty sad situation. She goes to a really small school, only one class per year group, so I’m worried about her being overwhelmed at a huge secondary school. I understand though that they can’t compromise the bubbles already in the school but it would have been nice.
