Im auditioning for a play

...in about an hour. I signed up for an audition yesterday on a total whim for the local small amdram society.

I haven't acting in over a decade and even then really not very much.

I feel really nervous!

Tips? Advice?? It's a comedic play. I loosely know the plot and the two characters I'm reading for.

Just say Darling a lot. You’ll get it. Grin

Even when reading the script? Grin

Is it in person or on Zoom?

Just before you go in / start, do some deep slow breaths to help with nerves.

Take your time with the lines (nerves tend to make us speak faster) and try to project so that people at the back of the theatre can hear you, see your face / expressions / body language.

Enjoy it! Break a leg!

Have you got a copy of the script to practise or an outline of the character you want to play?

GreenTeaPingPong · 19/05/2021 17:45

Sorry, break a leg dahling!

HangingOver · 19/05/2021 17:46

GreenTeaPingPong thank you thank you v.good tip about not speaking too fast as I've definitely been guilty of that in work presentations.

I have an irrational fear of spontaneously developing a weird accent when I start reading Grin

No sadly I could only find the first act online (which I've read obviously). They did a full read-through with all interested parties on Monday but I missed it since I only googled it yesterday, so at a bit of a disadvantage Confused

The weird accent might be good for a comedy! Grin Hope it went well.
