Ottoman Beds

I am, at long last, changing my bed. I think i shall buy an Ottoman because of the extra space. Can anyone recommend a certain make, please - or tell me if any bed manufacturers ought to be avoided at all costs. Thank you.

I have one and it's great for the extra space, but its not a gas lift one so it doesn't stay up and I also have a heavy mattress on it do it's heavy to lift.
Do I would advise to get a gas lift one if possible.

I have to prop my up with a shelf. It fell on me once and Dd had to come and recuse me Grin

Yes we recently got one from Dreams and it's great. I would have happily recommended the specific one but it appears to be discontinued. Excellent for the storage.

Notthecarwashagain · 19/05/2021 14:50

DS has the Yardley from Dreams, it has a gas lift. It's brilliant, so much space under there!
I do think the headboard looks a little low (that might be a me issue though!)

showmethegin · 19/05/2021 14:54

Just had the Bahra from Made.com and it is brilliant. It is such good quality and has a gas lift and easy to push down

I got mine made bespoke from a Yorkshire manufacturer because I wanted a strong base. Many of the beds I looked at had a very flimsy base so only very light items could be stored inside.

We are planning to buy one from Dreams in the next few weeks (either the Grove or the Charlie). We got DS a new ottoman bed from Dreams recently and it's fab - looks good, sturdy, lots of storage space underneath, has gas arms, even has a bluetooth speaker in the headboard(!) We have also purchased a rather beautiful green velvet sofa-bed from same place.

We are looking at a ottoman bed. We have a super king bed so want to stay the same size. I've read that a platform base is better than a slatted base for the mattress as it stops dust and all other bits falling into the storage bit. It's also better support for the mattress? Thoughts?

doctorboo · 07/06/2021 22:14

We’ve got a king size one, slatted base, from IKEA. This pic is from yesterday, I had a massive sort out and got rid of 2 large bin bags of stuff.

Have a look at your local independent bed shops. I had one last year, King size and gas lift and I paid £130 for it as it had a very very small rip in the fabric at the back. It was against the wall where nobody would see it. Utter bargain.

Local places will often have damages or ex display bargains.

Jim1980Bob · 08/06/2021 08:07

I bought a king size from The Range. £250.

The bed touches the floor so no crap creeping under the bed like the last bed that had a 3cm gap between the bed and the floor (kept finding DH's socks under there!)

The floor bit inside just has material, not a vase so stored stuff sits on the floor (no base to break).

Tonnes of storage space. I love it!

PaniniHead · 08/06/2021 08:12

I found ours on eBay through a furniture seller- gas ottoman, £200 and has been going strong for 6 years

sluj · 08/06/2021 08:15

We have a really heavy king size mattress - do you think a bed with the gas mechanism could cope with that ?

DdJames · 08/06/2021 08:30

I recently got one from beds on legs, I love it! They have a lot of choice in styles and colour and their custom service has been really good.

creamcheeseandlox · 08/06/2021 11:06

sluj we have a super king size Simba mattress so also very heavy. But surely the beds are made to lift the weight of mattress.

SmellThis · 08/06/2021 11:21

Oooh place marking

JackieTheFart · 08/06/2021 11:41

Mine was about £200 from Argos and is brilliant. Has lifted so stays up, plenty of space (and has a sort of bag inside so stuff doesn’t ‘leak’ out from under!).

Ours is a king size as well. It’s very comfy, no need to spend £££ in my opinion.
