Why are some people such utter cunts?

We heard odd noises late last night, DH went out and checked multiple times and couldn’t see anyone.

Go out this morning and some little bastard has broken into our bin store (we don’t keep any tools or anything inside fortunately).

A bit later I got on with some gardening and noticed that the wires to our lights have been deliberately cut, we have these lights up all year, we turn them on at Christmas and Halloweeen and the local kids love them as we decorate the whole garden too.

Earlier in the year I had a few pots of flowers waiting to be planted stolen and two pots of pine trees stolen.

Why are people like this?!?!

Okay I understand the (utterly selfish, hideous) reasons behind my plants but why go and deliberately destroy our lights?!

DH is furious, says he won’t bother decorating the garden ever again.

We have put so much effort in over the years ‘beautifying’ this house (tired old ex council) and garden (previously a mass of gappy hedge and bramble) with lovely flowers, painted fences, fresh coats of paint on door and windows etc.

I am so upset.
I don’t really feel like I can talk to DH about it because he will go off on a frothing rant about the area and street and how we should move (he doesn’t like the house or street) when I actually love this house.
It’s spacious with lovely big gardens and we have spent so much money over the years getting it nice.
It’s a labour of love for me
Sad

They may have cut the lights to stop you turning them on and seeing them.

I've stopped putting potted plants in my garden after a few got stolen and a freshly planted tree. If its not nailed down some fucker will steal it so I can't be arsed now

Sadly, it just seems to be how some people are. Awful, but where I live there are break-ins and vandalism.

SirenSays · 19/05/2021 11:22

How annoying, I'm sorry people can be like this. Our street was the same growing up. Nothing was safe. We stopped putting up hanging baskets because they'd just end up at the local carboot sale.
Our neighbours cemented two giant lion statues on step beside their front door. They came home from work one day to find they'd been stolen, along with half their top step.

Can you increase security? Motion lights, cameras? Grow something prickly? My grandpa eventually smashed up a load of bottles and cemented the glass into the top of the wall to stop people climbing over.

I feel the same about graffiti. It's everywhere and virtually impossible to get off old brickwork; ask me how I know ?.

Yes perhaps.
I never thought about that.

I hope so.
Im looking at motion detector sprinklers and lights at the moment.
Prickly plants I think probably isn’t an option, a lot of our garden is driveway with a big strip of planting either side.

Security lights that come on with sensors? Also security cameras, and a sign saying there is a camera watching.

Such a shame.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 19/05/2021 11:37

Honestly I fricking hate people. So sorry OP. We have security cameras both front and back and sensor lights, touch wood we've never been broken into but it gives me some peace of mind as I'm on my own a lot when DH is at work. I'd highly recommend!

AndromedaGal · 19/05/2021 11:38

Yes unfortunately some people are nasty fuckers. There’s no excuse for them. It’s their problem as much as yours though; they’ve got to live with themselves knowing they’re horrible shits whereas you can easily fix your broken lights.

And for every nasty person out there remember there is another who is kind & thoughtful. Just think how many people have got joy & pleasure looking at your lovely lights each year, how many children have gone “wow! Look at that house!” Let that be your motivation for fixing them and carrying on as you have done before.

bellropes · 19/05/2021 12:07

The council planted some Japanese cherry blossom trees in a park near to me and they were all vandalised within the week Sad it's just senseless. I hate people now, I think they're a curse on the planet. I literally don't bother with anyone, they're such a disappointment.

cctvrec · 19/05/2021 13:38

People are absolute scum. We have a load of feral children destroying and harassing our village. Parents saying, "Not mine!" Or "Well what can ya do, eh?" And "Oh everyone did worse when they were kids!"

The parents are as bad as the children.

It only stops with CCTV. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's scared of everyone messing with our house.

If you want cheap, no effort and very effective I recommend the Amazon Blink XT2. It's battery powered and only records when there's motion. And it all goes you your phone/kindle/pc etc. It's also. Got really good sound pick up and you can talk back through it from your Alexa or app.

FictionalCharacter · 20/05/2021 22:29

@cctvrec Thanks for that recommendation. I see they are out of stock so they must be popular.

Crucify the bastards!
