I have horrific thrush. I sent DH out to get me some canesten duo, took the pill this morning and projectile vomited all day about 2 hours after I took the pill. I've felt like utter shit all day.

It still hurts and itches like a bitch down there. Do I need to get another tablet or can I just use the cream and that'll do?

I probably wouldn’t take another pill because you don’t know how much is in your system still. But that’s just me
I’d probably use the cream tonight and then move onto pessaries instead tomorrow so it’s directly targeting the area
Have you seen a doctor? They can prescribe a longer course

anon5678 · 18/05/2021 19:41

Do you mean the pessary? The pill within the thrush pack is to insert down below

Accidentallydeletedoopsss · 18/05/2021 19:43

@anon5678 they do an oral duo so hopefully that was the one that was swallowed and not a pessary!

anon5678 · 18/05/2021 19:44

Sorry OP didn't realise the duo now had an oral pill and panicked you had eaten the pessary 🙈 it's been a long day.

Could you try using something cool for now, like a cold flannel?

imonfire · 18/05/2021 20:08

Hahaha no I don't mean the pessary hahaha! I promise it was the oral pill!

Laughing at you swallowing the pessary!

I was prescribed a course of the oral tablet so in my (non)medical opinion you can just take another.

Also, if you need temporary relief, cold, natural yogurt slapped on (and in Confused ) downstairs really is soothing

MistySkiesAfterRain · 18/05/2021 21:15

Oo I have only used the pessary before.

Agree with natural yoghurt. Has to be plain natural.

Also use non biological washing powder and wear cotton pants.

I wonder if an antihistamine would help.

You need Canesten with hydrocortisone (light blue tube) + another fluconazole tablet (same as canestan but own brand is half the price). Buy a second tablet for DP if you've had sex in the last week.

The cream will help until the tablet does its job. The tablet takes 48 hours to start working. It works by stopping the existing yeast from reproducing, but you still have to wait for the existing bastards to die.

Might be 8 days before it's all gone, but it will be all gone.

DinosaurDiana · 18/05/2021 21:24

Just came on to say plain yogurt - no fruity lumps in it !

KILNAMATRA · 18/05/2021 22:28

Probiotics helped me.. the one with lacrtobacillis rhamanous in it . This study suggests it helps www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5658588/

imonfire · 18/05/2021 22:57

Does anyone else find that thrush cream burns like a mother fucker when you put it on?

OP posts:
SchoolNightWine · 18/05/2021 23:24

I know this won't give immediate relief, but cutting down sugar intake can help massively with thrush. I had recurring thrush for about 18 months, and cutting out obvious sugars (chocolate, biscuits, cake, wine) really helped. Once I'd broken the cycle I've never suffered again, even now my sugar intake has increased!

But yes, natural yoghurt for now.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 18/05/2021 23:30

Surely the throwing up is a separate issue?

ghettihead · 18/05/2021 23:31

Get your blood sugar checked at the chemist. It was horrific thrush which led to my diabetes diagnosis.

Akire · 18/05/2021 23:34

Have u got any tea tree oil? I found few drops in bowl or somewhere big enough stick vulva in with warm water helped mine. Tend to get it often and as tea tree is anti fungal helps to stop itching. Though make sure it is only few drops at a time.

MerryGoRoundBrain · 18/05/2021 23:37

Natural yoghurt and an ice pack for temporary relief. I would take another tablet, thrush is an absolute bastard!

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 18/05/2021 23:37

When I had the worst thrush of my life, it turned out to be herpes. Worth getting checked out maybe.

RunningFromInsanity · 18/05/2021 23:40

Salt baths helped me.

I would say you could take another tablet, I don’t think you are going to overdose from 2 thrush tablets.

Pudmyboy · 19/05/2021 00:59

Salt water bathing (handful of table salt in shallow bath, sit in it for about 15 mins).
Are you sure it's thrush? (Have you got the cottage cheese discharge?)
As Wishing says: could be herpes: any blisters down there?
And I am sure you would have been told: don't take the oral tablet if there is any chance you could be pregnant
