Anyone taken the Kinsey scale test and not scored as ‘straight’ as they thought?

I’m gay and I came out a 5 on the scale, not sure why it wasn’t a 6 seeing as I answered honestly and consider myself exclusively attracted to women. Would love to know how others tested just out of sheer curiosity.

3 which is not a surprise to me at all

cantthinkofauniquename · 18/05/2021 21:54

2

I got a 2 which seems about right. I’m married but do get the odd girl-crush, typically on fairly butch women.

Allthereindeersaregirls · 18/05/2021 22:02

3, which is where I think I should be. Though I move along the scale between 2&4.

I'm married to a man though.

foodiefil · 18/05/2021 22:05
  1. And I've had experiences with both men and women but am attracted to men only.

Now...

RedPillowcase · 18/05/2021 22:06

3 but I'd say I'm a 2.5 to be precise Grin

YouLookSoCool · 18/05/2021 22:08

0 as expected. Boringly predictably utterly straight! 😆

TheSockMonster · 18/05/2021 22:10

@Tinkywee

I read once that true attraction is 3 fold- sexual, emotional/romantic and physical attraction. I’m gay and I can say for sure I have never had emotional/ romantic feelings for a man and that’s what made me realise I was interested in women, that ‘spark’ has only ever been there for women despite finding some men physically attractive. I have all 3 of the above for women throughout my life.
Yes, that’s it exactly! I’ve never thought of it that way before. It’s funny because we say hetrosexual and homosexual but for me it’s actually the romantic/emotional bit that is inflexible.
newtolineofduty · 18/05/2021 22:12

I remember once reading that a huge majority of women's number one fantasy is to sleep with another woman, so I think it's pretty 'normal' for women to score at least a 1 or 2 on this! X

CovidCorvid · 18/05/2021 22:15
  1. I find some women attractive/am attracted to some but just not sure about the sex side of things. 😂🙈
TiltTopTable · 18/05/2021 22:23

0 - I'm super straight! 😄 I thought when I answered 'same sex as me' to the question "who do you form close emotional bonds with", that it would push me up to a 1, but obviously not.

TurquoiseDragon · 18/05/2021 22:25

I scored a 2, but I think it should be a 3. I've only had sex with men and not women, because I met my ex when I was 18, was a late developer in terms of dating, andd I left my abusive ex over 3 years ago and haven''t felt like dating yet. I'm healing well from the abuse, and I might start dating soon, and won't be restricting myself to men.

Kljnmw3459 · 18/05/2021 22:27

I got 0. Tbf I've never felt any physical attraction to my own sex.

HollyHardcastle · 18/05/2021 22:28

3, which is what I would have rated myself if I'd seen the descriptions beforehand.

Gertie75 · 18/05/2021 22:35

It said I was bisexual even though I said I would never want sex with anyone the same sex as me!
I did put I had emotional bonds with both and enjoy socialising with both because I have a lot of great female and male friends but have never fancied a woman.
Doesn't seem very reliable.

GeorgeandHarold66 · 18/05/2021 22:39

I'm a 4 which is probably about right. I'd consider myself more or less exclusively lesbian but am slightly intrigued by the opposite sex and have had a handful of crushes on men..... don't think I'd do anything about it now though, I'm a bit long in the tooth Grin

blueshoes · 19/05/2021 02:46
  1. No surprises there
subbysammiexoxo · 19/05/2021 03:58

3 but I was an in denial bisexual now more recently a pansexual given my blatant attraction to trans individuals and non binary

NiceGerbil · 19/05/2021 04:02

Kinsey is bollocks though I thought?

Is it long? Might have a go!

These things are usually pretty based in I dunno. Stereotypes and whatnot. BBc brain thing says I'm s bloke and dH is neutral Confused whatevs!

NiceGerbil · 19/05/2021 04:06

Like 7 questions Grin

Love a pop quiz.

I'm superstraight which I kind of knew!

Why did it have questions about emotional connections and socialising? Bit random?!

SnappyMcSnapface · 19/05/2021 04:28

I’m 3 - as expected, slap bang in the middle and equally attracted to both men and women.

Interestingly, if I answer that I am equally attracted to both men and women but have only had sex with men, I get a score of 2 (I was curious as to what difference it would make). I don’t think I agree with that as a premise. I think you can be fully bisexual without ever having had sex with someone of the same sex as you. Your sexual orientation isn’t more or less valid depending on your sexual experiences.

OldkermitSippingtea · 19/05/2021 06:45

I read once that true attraction is 3 fold- sexual, emotional/romantic and physical attraction

This is what asexual people talk about but both men and women, who aren't asexual, seem not to understand. For asexual people, they can feel attraction to people just not of the sexual kind.

I was thinking the test didn't allow for asexuality but it's because it was really talking about sexual attraction.

StarlightLady · 19/05/2021 08:26

Kinsey was a man, but he worked with others, including women, in a scientific institute and the test itself is supposed to be more scientific than, say, something you find in Cosmo.

I cut down right down the middle; it would be inappropriate to say straight down the middle.

I discovered Kinsey some years ago and after a beautiful surprise renaissance with another woman in my early 30s; up until then l always considered myself straight. It would have been interesting, had l discovered Kinsey in my late teens or 20s, to see how l compared.

Early 40s now and regard myself as “sexual” no prefix required and don’t restrict myself to going for a particular gender.

MySocalledLoaf · 19/05/2021 08:37

@SnappyMcSnapface I think you’re right, presumably you were a 3 or thereabouts when you were still a virgin.
I’m also a 3, surprised to see so many others.
