How long do you wear your clothes before washing them?
I'll go first:

Tops - after each use
Jeans - 3-4 days
PJ's - 2-3 days
Bra - god knows 😂

Shall we bring masks into it? Now that's divisive Grin
After every wear, same as socks, knickers, bras, pjs and tshirts Grin

IhaveMyMoments · 19/05/2021 00:01

Yes I would wash by hand and have done when had no machine
In fact as of today I have no machine for around 3 weeks due to a kitchen refit

Most ill wash by hand. As I'm sure my DF won't appreciate the 3 loads I do a fyanon his water bill.
I couldn't hang something up that's been worn. I don't have ' that chair' in a room to put half worn clothes.. I can't stand anything being out of place so it gets thrown in the basket. Washed and out on the line or airer if raining

PickAChew · 19/05/2021 00:13

2 days for tops and bottoms, unless I spill something down them or kneel in muck. 2-3 for jammies.

2-3 days for bras too, unless it's hot. More frequent is bad for r the bra, less is bad for my skin.

@doubleshotespresso

Everything and anything that's been worn goes straight into the laundry. I cannot fathom why this could be deemed selfish?! Surely it's just good basic hygiene?
Because the environmental impact is huge , and if you want to keep living a decent life and have any future generations of yours not end up living in a hell hole you need to stop being selfish.

From the water and power used to the harmful chemicals hidden in detergent not to mention the micro fibres of plastic working its way into our drinking water caused by washing clothes.

Please consider not washing clothes as much for the as it's crucial to the health of humans and this planet.

ZoeMaye · 19/05/2021 07:46

Tops Daily
Jeans Daily
PJs Daily
Bra 1-3 Days

Branleuse · 19/05/2021 07:49

Usually when i either spill something on them, they have too much dog or cat hair on them or they smell, which for a lot of clothes is after one wear, but i can sometimes get 2 or 3 wears out of some things

Animum2 · 19/05/2021 08:03

Obviously I change underwear everyday but I leave all washing till the weekend and even then it's probably just 3 loads especially when you count bath towels

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/05/2021 08:35

Only socks and knickers after just one wear.

The rest, when it seems necessary, which is rather less often than when I was younger and a lot sweatier. Then it would be tops at least, after just one wear.

Unless you’ve spilt something on them, had a toddler wipe its snotty nose on them, or actually wet yourself, why on earth anyone would think jeans need washing after 2 or 3 wears, defeats me.
No wonder the planet’s in a state.

Meltinthemiddle · 19/05/2021 08:38

Wow thats Crazy washing everything after one wear!! I onlt wash pants and socks one wear. I do the sniff test with everything else or wash if it's dirty.

gamerchick · 19/05/2021 08:40

@Nicolastuffedone

I’m definitely not waiting until my clothes smell before I wash them.
People like to outming themselves on here. I don't believe half of them are as scruffy as they make out Grin
Lunaballoon · 19/05/2021 08:42

Single wear washing (apart from knickers and sweaty socks obvs) is ridiculous and will shorten the life of your clothes, never mind the environmental impact.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 19/05/2021 08:42

Underwear and tops 1 wear.
Pyjamas and bras a couple of times a week.
Jeans, jackets, jumpers, hoodies when they start to look/smell like they need it. Could be after 1 wear, could be after 10.

All of DC’s stuff gets washed after 1 wear but they’re 3 so considerably messier than I am.

cupoftea2021 · 19/05/2021 08:45

@Blossomtoes

It's just selfishness

Stupidity more like.

So I wear my outdoor uniform more than a day- grosse The planet is not f" because of a washing machine 😂
cupoftea2021 · 19/05/2021 08:47

Is a cold wash more planet friendly with eco Warri print soap powder? ( the shit that doesn't even remove stains? Only $$&

That's OK though, they can just buy more shit at Primark.
Nicolastuffedone · 19/05/2021 12:08

gamerchick it always makes me laugh when people say ‘oh! On MN’ everyone washes their sheets every hour on the hour!’ Implying that hygiene levels are laughably high on here! In truth, I find it quite the opposite! Sniffing your clothes before you wear them to check if they smell!!?? Do people really do that? If me, doing a washing twice a week is going to cause the planet to implode...well, tough luck!

Blossomtoes · 19/05/2021 12:14

The planet is not f" because of a washing machine 😂

No, the planet is fucked by the over use of millions of washing machines and tumble dryers, in addition to numerous other things. I’m so pleased you think it’s funny, I doubt your grandchildren will share your amusement.

Blossomtoes · 19/05/2021 12:15

Yes.

Nicolastuffedone · 19/05/2021 12:16

Eeeww!!!

Blossomtoes · 19/05/2021 12:18

@Nicolastuffedone

Eeeww!!!
Do you sniff milk to check if it’s off? What’s the difference?
Neonprint · 19/05/2021 12:18

If everyone was that worried about environmental impact why did you have kids? How much extra washing do their clothes need? Or us it just something to have a go at people about?

Blossomtoes · 19/05/2021 12:25

I had mine over 40 years ago when we were completely ignorant about the damage we’re causing to the environment. If I had my time again and knew what I know now, I probably wouldn’t have children. I have no idea how much washing my son does in his house 50 miles away. I’m pretty sure it’s a lot less than the majority of MN though and he always looks and smells perfectly clean to me.
BeansOnToast56 · 19/05/2021 12:35

Everything after 1 wash, towels after 2 uses, bedding weekly.
After reading this thread I now know why there are so many dirty looking people about.

MrsJBaptiste · 19/05/2021 12:40

@Meltinthemiddle

Me too.

Some things just aren't dirty after one wear. I can get through 3 outfits in 12 hours - gym clothes, sitting round the house clothes, going to the pub clothes. No way would all these clothes need washing!

Disclaimer: I am not so minging to think my gym clothes don't need washing - they most certainly do! Blush
