How long before you wash your clothes?

How long do you wear your clothes before washing them?
I'll go first:

Tops - after each use
Jeans - 3-4 days
PJ's - 2-3 days
Bra - god knows 😂

Knickers and socks after every wear.

Everything else if it's marked, has lost its shape or smells stale/sweaty.

I never hang anything in the wardrobe that's been worn, I hang it on the back of the door. It usually gets a few outings, depending how reckless I am with toothpaste.

I don't get a sweaty BO smell anymore- either age or better lifestyle.

That said, everything I wear on public transport or in a pub usually needs a wash afterwards. The seats tend to be quite mucky, I find.

JustGiveMeGin · 18/05/2021 16:22

Everything after one wear but I did get blasted on here not long ago for doing it so....

Nicolastuffedone · 18/05/2021 16:46

No wonder the environment is wrecked with all the laundry that goes on
Other than socks and knickers when it's dirty or smelly
Apart from work uniform which is every wear (HCP)

picklemewalnuts · 18/05/2021 17:00

I assume the people fretting about bras are doing them by hand.
I chuck mine in with my synthetics wash, in a net bag if I remember.

MolotovMocktail · 18/05/2021 17:11

Always amazed at how often people wash things on here, it’s really excessive. I wash pants and socks after one day of use and everything else only gets washed if it’s soiled or smelly.

LilaButterfly · 18/05/2021 17:53

I was also taught to always match bra and undies, but my grandma used to say each bra needs 2 pairs of undies to go with. So bra gets washed after 2 days. Undies, gym wear, socks every day. Shirts 1-2 days, jeans 3-4 days.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/05/2021 17:57

@Indoctro

Those washing after every wear, you know that's extremely bad for the environment

Come on people takes some responsibility for this planet , we are on a very slipper slop to a dark place if we don't all wise up.

Clothes should be washed when they smell
Or are dirty.

My tops do smell after every wear as I seem to sweat a lot! I don't have a car so I do a lot of walking.
Pyewackect · 18/05/2021 18:02

Bloody bra’s. Hate them. I take my off at the first opportunity.

Nicolastuffedone · 18/05/2021 18:02

I’m definitely not waiting until my clothes smell before I wash them.

Blossomtoes · 18/05/2021 18:04

Why not? If you can’t smell anything unless you stick your nose right into the fabric it doesn’t need washing.
DoTheNextRightThing · 18/05/2021 18:08

Tops - after each use
Pants - after each use and I wear one pair during the day and another for sleeping
Trousers/jeans - god knows
Bras - god knows
Hoodies - god knows

Generally with the hoodies, trousers, jeans etc I wait until a time when I have very little other washing to do and stuff as many in the washing machine as I can and wash them. Hahaha.

Yayy! Happy to see another person with unwashed bras 😂😂😂

Those of you who say you wash everything after just one wear, do you think you would still do that if you didn't have a washing machine and had to wash it all by hand? Genuine question - I'm interested in how committed you feel to the fact that they need to be washed that often?

Nicolastuffedone · 18/05/2021 18:58

Well, I disagree Blossomtoes’ my own personal opinion is, after wearing a top all day, I prefer to wash off any deodorant and perfume smell. I don’t need to bury my face into the fabric to know it needs washing, even if it’s only a 30 minute, 30 degree wash....

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 18/05/2021 19:06

Knickers and socks after one wear, anything else when I feel it needs it.
I bathe everyday, wear antiperspirant everyday. I think people are brought up by their mothers who do this and it becomes ingrained, even though it is completely illogical.

Frustratedbeyondbelief · 18/05/2021 19:33

Massive environmental impact of all this over washing. It really doesn't need to be this way.
Clothes that get dirty or come into contact with bodily secretions obviously only get one use, so knickers (and socks as most people's feet sweat ). Bras again if I have got sweaty. Anything else - when it's dirty.

OhMyAttic · 18/05/2021 20:05

Tops - after each use
Pants - after each use and I wear one pair during the day and another for sleeping
Trousers/jeans - when they start to make my legs itch Blush or I’ve walked trough mud
Bras - god knows - I only have one that fits...
Hoodies - when it starts to smell

Kids clothes get washed after one wear. Trying to train them to keep trousers more than once but usually they’re covered in mud/grass/paint/don’t ask daily.

TheChosenTwo · 18/05/2021 20:06

@99victoria I absolutely wouldn’t be washing any of it as much if I had to wash by hand.
I work with small children and often find myself sitting on the floor. I tend to wear long dresses and tights to work. The dresses touch my armpits, I get sweaty pits after walking to and from work anyway so wouldn’t want to be rewearing that or my tight! Most of my wardrobe is dresses, they get worn once and washed.
Dc are in school uniform and seem unable to eat meals without wearing half of it. Dh is a builder and gets filthy.
No one goes out in dirty clothes all the while we have a functioning washing machine.

If I had to wash by hand then I think I'd throw out dirty clothes and buy new ones 😂 thank god for washing machines

Almost everything after 1 wear. Except cardigans and jumpers. Jeans I would normally go a few wears. I wear bras so irregularly now I definitely don't wash them after each wear as I pop one on for an hour or so. I'm quite a sweaty person though Blush

My clothes are smelly after one wear. It's as if everyone is different.
doubleshotespresso · 18/05/2021 22:18

Everything and anything that's been worn goes straight into the laundry. I cannot fathom why this could be deemed selfish?! Surely it's just good basic hygiene?

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 18/05/2021 22:24

Obvs socks and undies get washed after wearing once. Everything else just gets washed when dirty. I don’t smell so if I haven’t dropped something down my top, I’ll gladly wear it two days in a row.

No, it’s pointless planet destruction. It makes an absolute mockery of the efforts some of us are making to tread lightly.
