Stupid bras! So frustrating! Is anyone the same?

I got some new bras in the not too distant past and they fit great, lasted for a fair while. After a while they didn't fit as well as they did before. Fair enough, bodies change, I ordered a few more in a few sizes, tried them on, and sent back the ones that didn't fit. When trying them on, I tried on for about 15 minutes and moved about before deciding which to keep. The remaining size I assumed was my new bra size. Fine. But within a few weeks the fit became odd again.

I think I need to get properly measured again but this makes me nervous, especially in the pandemic. I don't know if shops even do this anymore. I have tried an online fitting with Bravissimo a few times. But multiple times now I have the same issue - fits fine to begin with, not so much after a few weeks. Of course I can't send them back after this long, but as a larger chested lady, it's becoming quite expensive for this to keep happening and I simply can't afford it.

I guess the only option is go have an in person bra fitting, and I should stop putting it off. But what if the same happens? Fits fine in the shop then after a week goes odd again?

Arghhh! So annoying

Try the boobs or bust method of measuring changed 👏🏽 my👏🏽life 👏🏽

Definitely try Boob or Bust - website or facebook.

But also, just like any other clothing, a 30D in one brand is not necessarily be the same as a 30D in another brand. And the style and shape of the bra affects the fit too.

I hate bra buying - currently in the midst of placing huge orders, trying them all on and sending them all back again Sad

I did a boob or bust online fitting. I then did an M&S in person fitting as it’s the only way you can try on in store atm and slowly talked the fitter around to the size boob or bust gave me.

M&S lady started off measuring me the same size as the horrendously badly fitting bra I arrived in, and I was pulling the band 5 inches away from my rib cage going “look, you could drive a bus through there. Please don’t bring me more in this size!” We got there eventually Grin

Looks like I'll definitely have to check out boob or bust! I have never heard of it before, thanks all for that suggestion.

Is it after washing the fit goes odd? If so how are you washing them?

Shelvesoutofbooks · 18/05/2021 12:10

Op are you washing your bras in the washing machine and do you use fabric conditioner? Because if you do, it will make the bra go loose much quicker and that might be why the fit becomes odd

IliveonCoffee · 18/05/2021 12:16

Definitely getting correctly measured or following one of these methods will help... but if the fit seems to change after a while then it doesn't sound wholly a fit issue.

If the fit is wrong, I'd expect you might be inadvertently stretching it in an odd way, so it perhaps wearing in more than normal. So fitting should help.

Are you stretching or shrinking them when washing?

Is it a certain material that seems to develop this issue?

Do they seem to go back to fitting - do your boots change depending where you are in the month?

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 18/05/2021 12:55

Stupid question probably, but if they go loose, are you using the tighter loops from then on?

sourrain · 18/05/2021 13:10

I hand wash them. Wash each about once a week so that's after 3-4 wears normally. After washing they tend to fit better - then once I've worn it for a day it goes back to fitting oddly.

I think the fact one of my boobs is quite bigger than the other can't help. Not ridiculously so, but noticeably so; I know lots of people have one bigger than the other but perhaps mine have a more dramatic difference.

@IliveonCoffee they do sometimes fit better than other times so maybe it is just changing as I go through the month but also, once it loses the initial fit it never goes back! Haven't noticed any difference with different materials but my regular t shirt bras (not sure on material?) generally are a bit better than others i.e fitted bralette and sports.

@RubaiyatOfAnyone yes I do go tighter when it becomes a bit looser but more often than not it's the actual cups that are the main problem, not the band. As above may be due to differing sizes between boobs, not sure!

What do you mean by odd? Too loose round the back, digging in under your arms, baggy cups?

sourrain · 18/05/2021 13:24

@Pinkywoo the one I'm wearing now for example - the little triangle in the middle comes away from my chest suggesting that the cups are too small, but there is no bulge coming out of the cups at all, in fact there's a small gap. Underwire sometimes (but not always) pokes in as well. Straps often seem too long but then when I shorten them they're fine, then start digging in, so I adjust, then adjust again, and it feels like there's no correct length for the straps. Band fits well on this one, but in other bras it sometimes digs in and sometimes feels too loose! But generally band isn't the main problem as I've accepting this variance and it's only minimal. I have a fitted bralette which starts off great but by the end of the day is bunched up.

In all honesty I think I need to bite the bullet and go for a proper fitting. But like I mentioned the thought of this does scare me a little bit!

Try the Boob or Bust calculator. I bet you find that your band is actually too big.

Pinkywoo · 18/05/2021 13:30

It sounds like it could just be the wrong shape for you rather than the wrong size. I have the same problem with the centre triangle thing so wear plunge bras instead of balconette, these sit much better on my breastbone and as long as the cups are big enough I don't fall out when bending forwards!
