Maths Homework Mayhem

Ok so maybe this is just me or is this homework a bit nuts? I’ll happily admit I’m shit at maths, even the basics make me stressed sometimes (I’m planning to resit my gcse to deal with this).

Basically you have to find as many different ways of making £7.50 using the following coins-
£1
£2
20p
5p
1p

Now I’m sure there is a really simple, logical way to work this out but in my head I’m just thinking surely there must be hundreds of different ways to make that amount?
After working out just 10 different ways DS was bored and fed up, we are going back to it tomorrow to have another look.
Soooo is my highly illogical brain missing something here or am I right in thinking there’s got to 100s of way?

Give me a good old craft project any day!

10 different ways sounds great.

How old is ds?

Just looking at it
ways of making 50p
20+20+5+5
20+20+5+1+1+1+1+1
20+20+1+1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
20 5 5 5 5 5 5

then replace the 5s with 1s

and so on.

I agree with you! There will be lots and lots and lots of ways. Could well be hundred+ combinations. I'd guess the homework is just to list a lot - maybe 20 or so, to make sure the kids are secure in their number and coin values.

DS is 8.
Thank god it’s not just me thinking there must be so many ways of working this out.
I think we will do a few more and leave it at that.
Unfortunately the way it’s been worded means he thinks he really has to find all possibilities, he has autism and has taken this quite literally. There’s a section for parents comments, I think I’ll mention it was a bit overwhelming for him!

yes, it is pretty pointless finding EVERY combination.

Or he could summarize so

you can replace each 5p with 5x 10s.
