Calling stain removal experts - I need help

I’ve got a brand new tshirt which I really like, with royal blue and white stripes.

I dropped sauce down the front and it hasn’t washed out.

What are your sure fire methods for getting tomato based sauce out of a top, please?

Yes - just put it in sunlight. Even folded up on a window ledge inside with the stain showing should do it.

Beetle76 · 17/05/2021 21:13

Vanish soap bar or the Stain Devils one for tomato sauce.

Biancadelrioisback · 17/05/2021 21:14

I swear by just a normal bar of soap under cold water for almost all tough stains

Explains why @MotherOfGodWeeFella is also right Smile

Sunshine. Preferably outside but a sunny windowsill as PP says should do it. May need to leave it a while

AlmostSummer21 · 17/05/2021 21:20

Yep. Sunshine.

I wear a lot of white and I'm a mucky pup. I just wash things as normal then hang them on the line. Sun is the best stain removal ever! Even on quite dull days & I don't bring them in if it rains.

tiredoftiers · 17/05/2021 21:25

Another one for sunshine. Normal wash then on the line with the stain sun facing. It’s like magic Grin

PineappleWilson · 17/05/2021 21:26

Also helps if the stained area is wet, when it's in the sun so keep dampening it. I second the bar of hand soap suggestion too - works well on blood.

Biancadelrioisback · 17/05/2021 21:26

There is either something wrong with my clothes or the sunshine in my area as this never works for me!

debbrianna · 17/05/2021 21:28

Washing up liquid in cold water

Hoohaahoo · 17/05/2021 21:29

Elbow grease is amazing for getting stains out

dementedpixie · 17/05/2021 21:30

Washing up liquid rubbed into the stain before washing in bio powder

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2021 21:32

A full scale attack using most of the suggestions on here:
Washing up liquid rubbed in
Wash with bio powder
Hang out in sunshine

SoupDragon · 17/05/2021 21:34

Another vote for sunlight. Effort free!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/05/2021 21:54

Never use hot water on a stain as it fixes them. Sunlight is brilliant for red stains, particularly tomato based ones!
Faranth · 17/05/2021 21:56

Sunlight, but it only works if its wet - get it absolutely sopping then hang it in full sun.

Donotgogentle · 17/05/2021 21:58

Vanish carpet spray stain remover (the pink one). Got tomato sauce out of a white t-shirt last week, no sign of it.

Ugzbugz · 17/05/2021 21:59

Elbow grease spray then wash as normal. Got curry out if clothes the other day.

user1493494961 · 17/05/2021 21:59

My Granny always said ' hot water sets the stain', you should soak in cold first.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/05/2021 22:02

@Faranth

Sunlight, but it only works if its wet - get it absolutely sopping then hang it in full sun.
Not so - it's worked for me on completely dry things.
bumpertobumper · 17/05/2021 22:03

In future put washing up liquid directly into the stain, no water, as soon as possible.
And yes, then ☀️

CormoranStrike · 18/05/2021 08:29

Thank you all - I’ll let you know if it works

So far I haven't met a stain that a Vanish soap bar hadn't been able to remove. I've tried all the other Vanish products and they're okay but not nearly as effective.

I also wash everything (except for bedding and towels) at 30 degrees. My whites are way whiter.
I didn't realise til a few years ago that lower temperature washes work better these days. I assume it's because soap powders have changed to work better at low temps?

CormoranStrike · 18/05/2021 13:35

Sunlight has worked wonders! Thank you all.

Vanish spray is miraculous! Red wine/ink/ketchup....
