Do blood tests results usually come back the same day

Had them done at 9.30 got a text to say they had been reviewed by the doctor by 3.00 the same day. Just trying to work out if this was an error and that’s why I need to repeat blood due to a fault?

The results get posted once a day from our hospital lab to our GP surgery so if you had your bloods done early enough then yes, they can be back the same day. Alternatively if the results are concerning enough the lab will phone the Duty Dr at the surgery the same day to report the results.

Depends where you have them done and what time. It’s usual for them to be taken from a GP surgery (or hospital ward) to the lab, which is typically at a hospital. They will then be worked in turn. If you have blood tests in hospital eg A&E or antenatal wards, you usually get the result within a couple of hours.

They aren’t anything urgent as my appointment isn’t for a few weeks so the results mustn’t have been too bad.
