Can someone explain the Israel/Palestine conflict please

Just that really - I've read some explanations but I really can't get my head around who is in the wrong and who is in the right. Who do the UK support and why, who does the world support? It's so confusing but I feel I should understand it all - the violence is awful.

@Gremlinsateit

Well, to be fair, I think that a lot of pro- Palestinian sentiment in the Western press IS motivated by anti-semitism. That doesn’t mean that Israel is in the right, but I do question the motives of a lot of the reporting. I don’t think it is all motivated by heartfelt concern for the Palestinian people.
yeah definitely. Its really hard to work out what crosses the line too sometimes, because thinking that Israel shouldnt have been creasted as a state, means you think israel doesnt have a right to exist, and that makes you antisemetic, and not understanding the religious significance of gods chosen people and their connection to the land makes you antisemitic even if its because youre not religious. and also its not like its the only coflict or landgrab in the world, yet it gets much more attention than many others.

Russia decides to take another country and its in the news for a few weeks. China is awful to tibet and we hear nothing. Dont get started in all the various deadly conflicts in africa

its just pointless, nailing your colours to the mast when we are sitting in the UK with zero power or influence over it. They do what they do, and it just stirs up racial tension here

I have sent you a private message as the explanation I have been given was using my childrens names and I don't really have time to edit it

A lot of Arab nations want the total destruction of Israel. Even Palestinian leaders have said eventually no Jew should own any of that land. Jews don’t want to go through another Holocaust. And state that jews have been there longer than the current Arabs. Then you have hamas who want to annihilate all jews, and money that should be used in humanitarian things is used to buy expensive rockets which they fire from residential areas. Some of those rockets land back on their own people . The more women and children are killed , the more they get money from the Arab states.

I don't understand how the UK/USA, etc, were so arrogant as to think they could give away land they had no rights upon, however altruistic their original aims/desires were.

I sympathise with Israeli citizens, but I'm not sure it was the right decision in the first place as it was bound to cause unrest amongst the people already living there. I don't think anyone has covered themselves in glory since though as there is, I'm sure, good and bad on both sides.

It isn't something I follow or understand fully though, tbh, so I may have completely the wrong end of the stick.

I've no idea how to solve it 70 years on either and I'm sure both sides suffer enormously from the tension/violence and that there are no 'winners'.

@Endofmytether2 what happened decades ago happened. I’m sure everyone could agree to move on in the name of peace and work towards a solution where no one (Israelis or Palestinians) is evicted further or displaced again. The point is it’s still happening. To this day.

It’s not the stuff that happened years ago, it’s the ethnic cleansing that is happening right now. Until that stops there will never be peace. That is and always was the trigger. Everything else including extremist groups like Hamas is a response and reaction to this apartheid regime and ethnic cleansing that is going on under the worlds nose while the Israeli govt muddies and obfuscates what’s really happening.

How do they move towards peace? By stopping illegal land grabs for a start. And then ending the apartheid regime which even an Israeli human rights B’Tselem has documented
