Yet another thread about naice places to live

So we've had naice places that turned out to be underwhelming and overrated, we've had shit places, we've had naice but snobby places where people are apparently a bit up themselves or just miserable and unwelcoming......

So can we now have thread about lovely places to live full stop?

Where are all the villages, towns, small cities and suburbs of bigger cities that are just all-round great places to be? Hit me with loads of ideas - where do people gravitate towards in your county, if they have a choice?

They can be 'naice' and a bit posh (being highly sought after means it's inevitable that a good proportion of the inhabitants will be quite well off) but not so posh, monied, snobby or cliquey that it alienates the majority of normal people even if they could afford to live there.

Places that are attractive in themselves but that also have lovely wider surroundings, be it countryside or coast. They need to be relatively safe, friendly, civilized and accepting of people who are not third generation locals. Not somewhere so rammed with part-time second home owners that has no real community of its own. Not excessively isolated either. Reasonably accessible for decent shopping, culture or entertainment, good restaurants, and things to get involved with.

I'll start with Sidmouth in Devon, Maldon in Essex and Otford in Kent.
