Box dye vs Salon for greys

So i have finally grown out the awful orange/blonde dye of my hair. My hair is fine, naturally greasy and mousy with a fair amount of grey. Its a sort of scary mary look.

Happy to invest in salon dye/highlights but really unsure on how much i should spend, where to go. Do i go to a small hairdresser or one of the more trendy places? Id rather spend more and get decent products than pay someone to put what i could apply mysrlf from the supermarket.

I have anxiety and find going to the hair dressers excruciating, hence my hair being just awful and i really want to rescue it. I also am wary of looking like an old biddy, im 50 and fat

The cost depends on what you want done - greys are tricky to colour match if you have different shades in your hair but you could probably get a fairly neutral light brown without having to bleach.

You definitely won’t get a decent job with box dyes though - it’s the same with everything, if you want a professional finish you need to pay a professional. I do understand though, I hate going to the hairdressers.
