Could have been using a faulty car seat for 18 months

I bought a Cosatto Den seat early in 2020 for my Grandson. I only used it a few times last year from the age of about 6 months, due to covid and the fact that DD was mainly WFH, I’ve used it quite a bit since March.
A few days ago I discovered, to my horror, that I could pull the harness straps loose without pressing the release button ( not the harness buckle) it was pure fluke, if you pull on the straps where the harness pads are, they don’t move - I now see that the pads are fixed in place under the head rest but unless you really look, it seems like they are ‘free ‘ I feel awful, you have to pull really hard to move the straps but I doubt they’d be safe in a collision.
Cosatto aren’t in the least bit interested because I don’t have a receipt (and can’t even remember which online retailer I got it from). You’d think they’d at least want the seat back to check it over.

It also looks like they don’t make that particular seat any more.
I’ve cut the straps and it’s going to the tip.
