Do tips have a limit on visits ? Decluttering a whole house

As above - can’t find this info out and a neighbour has just said ‘be careful you can’t keep going every week with a car full’ .......

There’s nothing on the Local authority website and I need to get things sorted but worried now we have a limit

Ours doesn’t they will speak to you if they’re concerned it’s commercial waste but I’m decluttering a house is a reasonable answer. Most of the guys are nice at ours and will help you carry stuff even although they’re not supposed to.

Bargebill19 · 16/05/2021 11:23

Email them. A similar thread saw that every council seems to have different rules. Eg number of trips, type of waste accepted, type of vehicle, need a pass, need to book in advance, etc. Just to name a few of the disparities.
So I would email and get the right info for your local tip.

BlueBrownbin · 16/05/2021 11:23

That’s good to know and I’m pretty sure it would have been on the website if there was a limit.
I’m just decluttering so much and I need to just get rid of everything if we couldn’t go to the tip it would be a disaster

I’ll do that. Just so desperate to sort this mess !

Ours is one visit a day at the moment (per car registration number) and you have to book a slot online beforehand.

ratspeaker · 16/05/2021 11:28

Each council area is different.

Ours we have to book in advance and arrive within timeslot, my pal in another council area just turned up with proof of living in area and she did a lot as she was moving house and downsizing.

In Edinburgh you can only got to certain tips in a van.

Ours does not have a limit but you need an appointment. The next county over has a limit of 6 each year. But it says this on the website.

If anything is okay try and advertise for free on a Facebook group. We got rid of so much stuff that way. Some charity shops will also collect.

Clymene · 16/05/2021 11:33

Are you sure some of it can't be reused or recycled? Really worth giving as much as you can on Facebook marketplace or freecycle

JackieTheFart · 16/05/2021 11:34

And our local one has no limit at all unless you’re in a van!

LindaEllen · 16/05/2021 11:36

Ours have never said anything and I'v decluttered several houses in recent years.

Honestly, though, the most recent time I just paid for a skip and it was the best decision I'd ever made!

idontlikealdi · 16/05/2021 11:38

Ours are back to normal now - ie turn up and queue for a couple of hours to get in. The appointment system was so much better!

UCOinanOCG · 16/05/2021 11:40

Ours allow three trips within a 7 day period. My DH is there almost every weekend as we don't have recycling bins where we live, just a general waste one.

Tbh I tip majority of it as o need to get rid of stuff and pre covid I used to sort everything

We would have charity shops tell us to stand and wait while they assessed our bags and they were rude and ungrateful (was good quality stuff but they obviously get people dump rubbish so had this system and they just weren’t pleasant about it)

Recycling yes we do that

Used to try and sell stuff-it was a nightmare!! People wouldn’t turn up, haggled excessively or complained and wanted refunds etc
Tried to give stuff away - very similar issues ! Entitled behaviour and no shows and expecting us to hold stuff for days / weeks and abuse if we didn’t.
So now most goes to the tip

Ours only has limits if your in a van

MegaClutterSlut · 16/05/2021 11:48

You have to book an appointment for our local tip and you can only go once a week

HoppingPavlova · 16/05/2021 11:51

Get a skip and avoid the hassle?

BlueBrownbin · 16/05/2021 11:52

Wish we could!!! There’s nowhere to put it !

I did five trips in a day once - trashed rental property. Plus the council collection for what didn't fit in the car.

a time before - but unless you are bringing commercial waste there shouldn't be a limit. Councils vary greatly though so enquire.

charliechew · 16/05/2021 11:54

No, there isn’t a limit as I asked at my local tip just last week, as I’ve been having a clear out.

murbblurb · 16/05/2021 11:54

if stuff is useable the British Heart Foundation will do a collection, and they do turn up.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 16/05/2021 11:56

We've just emptied a hoarders house....... My brother did at least 30 trips to the top in his huge Mercedes estate taking newspapers alone. Didn't have any issues other than being heckled by the lads asking if we'd ran out of papers yet 🙄

EvilOnion · 16/05/2021 11:57

It varies by LA.

Due to Covid and allowing for social distancing ours is 1 visit every 14 days with a 20 minute pre-booked slot.

BlueBrownbin · 16/05/2021 11:57

That sounds good I’ll look that up thanks

I had tried a collection from a local charity previously that collected mother and baby stuff but they didn’t turn up so I kept the items for 4 months then have to charity then 10 MONTHS later they randomly text to say they’d pick up the items that day 🤦‍♀️
