Are men's and women's shoe sizes comparable?

Dd1's just spied a pair of men's trainers she likes, while we were in town.

She doesn't really need any more trainers at the mo, but I do like to be organised for Christmas (sorry to the haters but there we go!)

Would a men's 8 be the same as a women's 8? Or do they differ?

In my experience they are a bit wider.

They're different, if you Google its easy to find conversion charts

Actually I just googled and that was a lie! There the same - I was sure I looked at this a couple of years ago and they were different! Weird!

Sorry for the misinformation!

My experience is that they are usually a little wider, but frankly that works for me as womens shoes are usually too narrow!

I am a size 8 and wear men's shoes because they are wider. Lengthwise they are the same but the fit is very different in my experience

I agree with pp, men's are a bit wider. I'm a size 8 and have quite a wide foot so always buy men's sizes in trainers, converse etc.

Thanks all; I've added them to my list of possible presents for the mo & will try and remember to take her back in the same shop a little closer to Christmas to see if she still likes them (maybe she'd be able to try them for fit by then as well).
