Is it worth getting? I know fewer/no ads? What are the other benefits?

I play on Alexa and iPhone can't seem to skip to next song on iPhone and even on Alexa there's a limited number of skips?

Think I'm also being limited on what playlists I can access?

Would love to know more

I'm another one who has had a subscription for years but didn't know about audiobooks!

SaskiaRembrandt · 15/05/2021 18:21

One of the things I love most about Spotify are the recommendations, it's really expanded the artists and genres I listen to.

Tangledtresses · 15/05/2021 18:28

My son and I used to share Spotify.... then the Spotify rows started and I was being recommended drill/depressing rap music and my playlist was completely drowned out

So I got the family one... no arguments phew 😅 but it's sooooo expensive 14.99 per month ??

Ahh wondering if what I need to do is get app on my fire tablet? Would that then enable me to voice activate a playlist playing?

I too had NO idea it also did audiobooks that's something I could be interested in

Yes I think I need to try the recommendations too, I feel I'm rather turning into my mother with sticking to only listening to music I'm already familiar with. My dd is into something that sounds like techno/house/garage music of the modern stuff she likes and it's not my taste at all but I forgot there is still music being created by modern/new artists that I DO like I'm just not exposing myself to it enough as it's only when it's showcased on a chat show or as soundtrack to a movie or tv show that I hear it and then I forget to look it up or add to playlists etc

I'm 48, anyone else of roughly same age find they do the same?

I mostly listen to absolute 80's radio and I must admit I do like hometime with bush and Ritchie and I REALLY like forgotten 80's on a Sunday eve with Matthew Rudd I like his presenting style and the trivia/biography tidbits he adds. But I'm getting a bit bored of their playlist as even though there's a no repeat guarantee between 9-5 they tend to play the same tracks each day I find.

I love 80's music but I also love 90's music and even some beyond then, though I find I'm much less familiar with music released after I became a mum - is that weird? I seemed to get out of the habit of even listening to music much when dd was little let alone buying (had no money then!) so I'm feeling a bit old and "uncool" and I'd very much like NOT to be - even if that's just in my own head! I absolutely love it

Worth every penny

I really like the Suggested For You playlists - I've come across some great tracks this way

GachaBread · 15/05/2021 23:00

Another one here that rates it. I have had deezer, apple but find Spotify so much easier to navigate. The music on it is phenomenal and through Spotify have found many genres that I would never have dreamed of listening too, I am sure that you can have a free 1 month trial so try it out. I promise you will not be disappointed and will see that it is worth every penny.

Freeekedout · 15/05/2021 23:06

You can get music through Amazon prime if you've got that?

Graphista · 15/05/2021 23:44

I do have prime but have never tried music. Quick google says "curated playlists" so questions are -

Are there Ads?

Can I make my own playlists? (This is the thing I love most about Spotify to be honest. I have a motivating one with empowering music, a Singalong one, favourites from various decades, favourite ballads etc)

@Graphista

The ads are driving me nuts! Especially as I'm getting local ads for companies I hate.

Sounds good to me.

Am I better signing up via iPhone app or on Alexa? Is there a difference?

I haven't really figured out the Alexa part, purely by happenstance I've found I can play via the iPhone app and if I'm near the echo I can select to play through that BUT I can't start it by voice through the Alexa nor choose/change playlists it just plays a random Spotify playlist.

Good point about the price of the album v premium price for loads of music.

Are new albums available to listen to on Spotify? I'm trying to not limit myself to my usual 80's favourites and listen to some new stuff at least occasionally (feeling old)

Once Alexa is playing Spotify you can go back and select the playlist you actually wanted her to play. Annoying glitch.

I trialled the 3.99 membership in lockdown and loved it. Only stopped as trying to save £. Its probably the one subscription I would treat myself to, but at the moment I'm paying for a food app for weight loss.

JooLoo · 16/05/2021 05:42

How does it compare to Amazon Prime please? I have the basic Prime version which is a bit limited. It would cost me £8 a month to upgrade or it looks like Spotify £10 (though realistically I’d probably get the family version which is £17...)

bigfloweryblouse · 16/05/2021 06:31

I absolutely love Spotify premium, use it every day and it goes round the house with me and my Bose portable speaker as I do my chores. The family version is good value and the DCs have it on their phones too

BrettChavez · 22/06/2021 06:21

I also love spotify premim apk, it's the best music player I've ever heard.
