Shipping medicine to Europe

Can anyone help, I keep finding different advice online.

Live in Denmark. You can’t buy cold and flu relief here (amongst other things) at all so a friend has offered to ship
-day/night nurse

  • savlon
-Flexitol heel balm

But can she or will it get stuck somewhere and be returned (she’s also offered to ship cheese and onion crisps and twirl bars which would frankly be the biggest loss Grin ). Does anyone know?

Thank so much

There might be a reason the licences haven’t been granted in a particular country.

There’s certain colours we use in the UK which are illegal in the USA.

I don’t see a problem with shipping it but it might get confiscated at customs.

No help,
But I remember packing loads of cheap ibuprofen when I visited family in france.
They are sold in france, but about £4 a pack. Instead of 40p here...
Filled all the small gaps in my suitcase with them.
No issue. This was about 5 years ago.

You might have more issues with liquids/fluids. Especially if posted.

And never send anything with almonds in. Drug sniffer dogs confuse almonds with explosives. Cant remember the reason why.

Ellmau · 15/05/2021 15:30

If it's not legal for sale, it probably isn't legal to import.

Semtex smells like almonds/marzipan.

Lonel · 15/05/2021 15:40

I wouldn't have anything sent from the UK at the moment. I am in the EU and had some face cream sent and it ended up being a right PITA, not just the extra duty to pay but the sheets and sheets of forms I had to fill in and send back because these were products that had not been cleared for EU use. (They were the same products which had been fine before Brexit!) I imagine it would be even worse for medicine. Don't do it! (Have a look if you can order something similar from an EU website).

Now I really want to know how you know that.

Please please don't be Google...

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 15/05/2021 15:50

I've heard it before. There was also the father of a woman who died in the Lockerbie bombing who took a fake bomb on a transatlantic flight to show security had not been tightened - he used a cassette player and marzipan which would look like a bomb when scanned and smell like one to a sniffer dog. It didn't get spotted.

lostlife · 15/05/2021 15:55

You cant ship most liquids from the UK. They will be seized and destroyed.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/05/2021 16:17

That's less exciting than what was in my head @MotherOfGodWeeFella but thanks for telling me!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 15/05/2021 16:21

I did toy with making something up, then thought the better of it.

I'm in Ireland (EU) and we have night and day nurse and savlon. Don't know about the heel cream.
Maybe easier to order from an EU pharmacy?

Greybeardy · 15/05/2021 16:36

Day/night nurse both have potential for abuse - perhaps that’s why they’re not widely available?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 15/05/2021 16:53

Thanks all, really appreciate your help...and the lesson on Almonds Grin

M0rT amazing suggestion! Just found an Irish pharmacy that will deliver everything to here! Thank you!

SIL used to send us Lemsip but not since Brexit as we aren't sure what the rules are.

It's not illegal for sale here, it's only paracetamol + decongestant after all, but it's not popular so it isn't sold. I don't particularly care but DH really misses it when he has a cold and no amount of hot vitamin C drinks plus a paracetamol tablet will suffice.

Irish pharmacy websites aren't a bad shout. I will look them up.

We tend to wait until we hear someone is visiting the UK or their relative is coming here and then ask them to buy some and bring it in their suitcase but of course that isn't happening now either.
