Sociology

My daughter is in year 12 and struggling to enjoy her Sociology A level course. She picked it purely because she wanted to do something different. She's also doing English, Music and a finance module. She's doing well, just not enjoying the teaching in this subject. A/B in all GCSEs and no particular career plans yet. If you use the subject in your day to day work or can recommend any reading material please share.

Off the top of my head -

Kate Fox's "Watching the English" is a really fun book about social class

Owen Jones "Chavs: the demonisation of the working class"

Ann Oakley "Housewife"

None of these are "dry" imo

I did sociology and it’s so friggin boring. I was A* in history when we were picking our options so decided to up my knowledge on something else and I wish I’d chosen history.
I remember referencing a book called ‘ the social construction of reality’ by Peter l Berger. It’s pretty old but might give an insight.

Thank you. Not interfering, just want to offer practical encouragement. I didn't study the subject myself, but understand why she thought it would be interesting. She could've done A level History, or French but just has to make the best if it now.

Id recommend listening to Hidden Brain. Its social psychology which is pretty close to sociology.
Also
Code Switch (race in usa)
Throughline (individual episodes such as the one on policing in usa)
Serial s3 follows a courthouse in usa so you get crime, race and I tjink a bit of sex.
Theres an excellent episode of youre wrong about on the stanford prison experiment.

Thank you, great suggestions. Think the teaching has been quite heavy going, and she's not really sure about the practical applications of the subject so these ideas are really useful.
