How can I stop having these nightmares! 😱

I’ve been having horrible dreams lately where I dream I wake up and as soon as I open my eyes in the darkened room there’s someone hovering over the bed. They swoop down towards me and I usually thrash out at them and then wake up.

I usually go straight back to sleep but I can remember it clearly in the morning.

Why is this happening and can I do anything to stop it? I hate it and it’s happening more and more 🙈

Are you on any medication, any recent changes?

Could be sleep paralysis, though can you move when you see the figure coming towards you?

Are you overtired, stressed, anxious?

Double check there's no mould on any walls behind any furniture, mould can cause hallucinations.

No new or changed medication, I do have a busy, stressful job and like everyone Im fed up of working from home with very little fun or much social stuff in my life.

I will check for mould, I’ve never heard of that before

Do you sleep on your back? That causes nightmares for me. Something about the blood going to the back of your head.

Thank you, this has only happened when I am asleep on my back so maybe this is the problem. I shall try and keep to my side as these terrors are awful.

Sometimes trying to draw a nightmare can help stop it. It doesn't matter if you can't draw well, it's not producing a good picture that matters, it's trying to remember the exact detail of the creature's eyes for instance, or what exactly it was wearing so that you can try to draw it. With most nightmares you think they're really vivid and detailed but in fact there's a lot of fuzzy areas.

Then, the next time you have the nightmare your brain remembers trying to draw it and tries to look for the details that you couldn't remember. Which can wake you up and throw you out of the dream.

Don't know if it works with the sleep paralysis type of dreams though, but couldn't hurt to try.
