Motherland House - what are these in Julia’s kitchen? (Pic attached)

Those three silver boxes on the wall at the back on the left. They don’t look like cupboards. I’ve never seen anything like them before, does anyone know what they are?

Yes, that big light fitting thing is odd as well.
It's not a practical space!

OrchidLass · 15/05/2021 15:12

@Maireas what light fitting do you mean, I can only see little light shades? I love Julia and her house. 😆

Maireas · 15/05/2021 15:22

@Orchidlass - if you look at the other picture posted, there's a redundant light fitting - a big metal shade on top of the mysterious boxes. Then it's moved. Maybe just there prior to fitting elsewhere.

I think they look a lot like antique coffee bean dispensers

MeanMrMustardSeed · 15/05/2021 15:46

As soon as I saw this thread title in active conversations I knew it would be about these! I have no idea and have been puzzling about them myself! I don’t think that they are particularly attractive, and you’d have to use them an awful lot to be worth having three of them taking up all that space.

giletrouge · 15/05/2021 15:50

Weird metal art. Or I've got no idea! Never watched it; might have to now. Can't stand an unanswered question of this ilk. Grin
Anyone else think weird metal art?

ItsCokeFFS · 15/05/2021 16:02

They appear to have small wooden rocking horses hanging from them.

QuentininQuarantino · 15/05/2021 16:02

Antique coffee bean dispensers would match the aesthetic of the rest of the kitchen and Julia does strike me as a coffee lover, but I agree that it’s mad to lose so much space on a small kitchen for that, unless she’s geniusly used the front of them to cover normal cupboards...? But then there’s a lot of wasted negative space between them too...

Place marking too.

Julia irritates me but she is 100% like one of the school gate mums in my time. Didn't like her either!

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/05/2021 16:05

We wondered too and thought they must be some kind of dispenser maybe from an old grocer's shop.

DappledThings · 15/05/2021 16:07

Me too! I was going to post the same question. They look too high up to function as any kind of dispenser.

Maireas · 15/05/2021 16:18

They're like the kind of thing Drew Pritchard finds in the back of an old shop, and sells on for ££££! I agree that they seem like old coffee dispensers of some sort. For decor, not practicality!

applepineapple · 17/05/2021 22:14

They are coffee dispensers Grin

@applepineapple I just saw the same TikTok and rushed here to say 😂

ALBERITTO · 01/09/2021 01:00

I think I have seen one of those integral kitchens on the kitchensearch.com/ page, you can look for the model on the page that I tell you, maybe I can find it, but at first glance they look like cabinets and I think that's what they are.

Mrmiike · 23/12/2022 23:53

I've solved it ladies. They're vintage coffee silos...

Suppose they could be repurchased for cereal or rice etc.

You're welcome...

@Mrmiike Thank fuck you came to tell us the answer 15 months after it had been worked out! And so patronising too! How ever would we live without you?

Mrmiike · 24/12/2022 00:55

Alright... I thought it was light hearted and jovial. But you see what's reflected I guess.

In any case all I saw above was a consensus guess and a screen shot of another chat.

I found another example. Thought I'd share.

Did you not read the thread and see it was already solved on this thread over a year ago?

Maybe make sure you check the dates and finish the thread before confidently announcing you've solved something, especially with a male looking username because as well possibly coming across cocky, you look like you're mansplaining too. You're welcome. (See how patronising that sounds?)

Happy Christmas either way. :) (genuinely I'm not being sarcastic)

No, that isn't the case.

MrBrs · 24/12/2022 22:09

Looking at episode 1, in exactly the same place there are cereal boxes so an upgrade?

They were in series 1&2 but they were on the wall nearest the door, you can see them in the party held at her house.
I am absolutely in love with this series and hope there are more to come.

WhiteRa88it · 07/11/2025 00:07

Those are dispensing gadgets. I used google to search the image and I came across a blog where the writer was visiting a chocolate shop. The roman numerals are where the chocolates were on the contraptions she was using. Cacao market was the name of the place. It was driving me nuts over what they were! AI said they were butler bells and elevator bells/floor indicator. I know this is an old post but I joined just so I could tell you what the hell we were looking at 😂❤
