Cheaper alternative to a Pashley bicycle?

Onedropbeat · 13/05/2021 22:12

My commute to work has reduced considerably and it’s too long to walk but a perfect distance for a cycle along nicely lit wide roads

I’ve always loved a pashley but they are a bit too pricy starting at around £700/750

I carry quite a bit with me so want a bike that can have a basket upfront and a bag on the back

Can anyone recommend a decent alternative to a pashley for a budget of around £400?

What about a Pendleton ?

I really like those but they seem to be totally sold out across the country

What about Bobbin bikes? A friend has recently had next day delivery

Oooh the Bobbins look lovely. Do you know which one she went for?

Did she use the cycle to work scheme?

Is there anything on Decathlon? Not my style of bike but I have had a couple of brilliant road bikes over the years at considerably less cost than the branded ones. I am sure they used to do something similar, it may be worth a look.

I’ve been looking on decathlon but I struggle to know what to search for really, it doesn’t have to be a Dutch style but I assumed they were best for someone who just wants a lazy confortablr ride (possibly with a child seat attached occasionally)

Should I be looking at hybrids maybe?

I saw a Raleigh hybrid that peaked my interest, but I’d need mudguards all round and didn’t know if that was possible to add

I have a Dawes Dutch style bike that’s great for cycling around town. When I was doing serious (for me!) exercise on my bike I had a Pendleton hybrid. I don’t think you need to spend a fortune to get something decent.
