Has anyone changed from varifocals to bifocals?

I've been wearing varifocals for a few years now and love them. I have a very complex prescription including prisms and my eyesight changes regularly. I had new varifocals last year and now my prescription has changed again so it's costing me a fortune.
I went for bifocals this time because of the constant cost but I'm have trouble getting used to them. The distance is fine and the reading bit is fantastic but my eyes are missing the middle bit of the varifocal.
I've had them for nearly two weeks and I keep getting headaches.
I went back to the optician today and they said I can give them a bit longer or upgrade to varifocals.
Do I need to give them longer or is it the case that once you've had varifocals you can't go back?

Well - you’re never going to get the intermediate but with a varifocal. Trifocals used to be available but aren’t any more in the UK.
I assume your vision is changing due to cataracts, so once you have them done it should simplify things a little.

Varifocals from asda are the same cost as a standard lense
