Plantur 39 shampoo advert “over 40” comment

You know the Plantur 39 shampoo advert, and the women says at the end ‘it’s especially popular with women “over 40”’ and whispers “over 40” as though it’s a taboo subject to be as old as that...

“Oh my, women liking a shampoo, and they’re over 40!? Surely not!”

Is it just me that feels annoys by how she says it?! It’s always frustrated me more than I think it should! Smile

Translation: Going through the menopause.

They couldn't even say that in a whisper though.

Omg yes! So glad I found this comment as I saw it today and thought exactly the same thing. Whoever is there ad agency should be fired…completely off putting & ageist

It’s so annoying, I’m nowhere near 40 and I feel pissed off by it so I can imagine anyone closer to, or over 40 being even more irritated by it. I hope I’ll be 40 one day, and if I’m lucky enough to have that privilege I won’t be buying their bloody shampoo!

GreenLunchBox · 29/04/2022 23:47

Yeah

I'm over 40 and don't have a single grey hair <touch wood>

I found the advert irritating

Tinkerbellflowers · 29/04/2022 23:48

I hate that advert. What on earth is so embarrassing about being over 40? Why does it need to be whispered?

EatSleepReplete · 29/04/2022 23:49

That's a no from me, then. (Am over 40. And have slightly thinning hair.) They can bollocks.

DrBrennerFan · 30/04/2022 00:03

iv always hated it and I’m 55 now the way she says it is pathetic, just so unnecessary.

Because apparently women fulfil two functions in society - reproduction & decoration. Once we hit 40 we rapidly lose our ability to do this. But we're still around, reminding people that we are in fact Real People. It's embarrassing for them because they have to confront their own (lack of willingness to deal with) ageing, & their sexist prejudices.

Like I said, bollocks to them. It's a crap & lazy advert & it shows us what they really think.

It annoys me too. I am nearly 40 and things like this reeeeeaaaaally don't help.

RJnomore1 · 30/04/2022 00:15

I thought it was about thinning hair or hair loss 😝

Advert's no more irritating than the one with the bearded bloke dancing down the stairs with his socks on after a night of fun fuelled by Viagra, or the totally stupid one by Samsung (?) of the girl running in the street, at night, on her own with ear plugs in who interacts with a possible rapist on an otherwise deserted bridge. Bring back Oxo adverts.
