Any older surfers out there

Hi all, I'm considering learning to surf at the grand age of 50 ☺️and wondered if any ladies who surf could offer any words of wisdom. Some questions I have are.. How long does it take to learn, what level of fitness is required, would it be beneficial to do any workouts eg yoga to help with balance etc? I really don't want to make a tit of myself so any tips would be gratefully received. I'm looking at Cornwall so if anyone knows of any surf schools that would be great. Thanks so much in advance.

Well I did an intensive course for 8 days all day and I managed to stand up and surf a wave a grand total of one time, and I ruined it by shouting “oh my god look at me I’m doing it I’m so cool!!!”

But it was wonderful just sitting out on the board in the wide ocean waiting for a wave! I’d say you have to be fairly fit as there’s a lot of swimming at sunset tidal forces involved.

You need to be very fit and have good upper body strength. It's bloody hard works S depending on the waves can be absolutely brutal. It's great though.

I'm more of an SUP fan now, a whole lot less hassle but we live near a nice flat reservoir.
