Pregnant during the pandemic

Hi all

This is my first post on here! Glad to be joining the conversation and Mumsnet crew!

I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I've been finding it a struggle with the pandemic...I feel like i'm constantly trying to risk assess and I don't know when I should draw the line in regards to worry.

I'm cautious of travelling and limit the amount I do (I live in London and depend on public transport) and I'm also not going into the office and I find myself in a panic when work/friends make plans.

My mood fluctuates between 'this is fine, i'll be fine' and 'OMG what if I get Covid and lose the baby'

I wanted to get a sense of what other pregnant women are doing and what they are comfortable with and any coping mechanisms to help you go about your daily life whilst still being careful

Thank you!
Nx

I’m currently 24 weeks, this is the third time I’ve been pregnant during the pandemic, and it’s a bit wearing! However, this pregnancy is going well, where the other two were obviously lost.

I think you just have to take each day as it comes, and do what you can. I find that some friends can’t grasp that I need to be more careful.

It’s a balance. I have a 4 year old, and whilst that can be physically exhausting, in some ways it’s helpful. I need to get out and about for his sake - it wouldn’t be fair to keep him in, so all I can do is make sure we distance; wear a mask; wash and sanitise.

I also had my first vaccine yesterday - I’m feeling pretty good about that!

It’s a tough situation though - hope you’re doing ok

Hey @Bobbyelvis4ever

Thank you so much for your reply and sharing your experience with me. I'm so glad to hear you're now doing well!

Yes I am struggling more with work not quite understanding...they keep inviting me to things (social as well as to work in the office) and it's just exacerbating feelings of stress and anxiety...I'm going to have an open conversation with them about how difficult this is.

I'm quite good at making sure I go out into parks and I'm quite good at being in my local area but it's just the travel I find so challenging...the last place I want to be is an unventilated train underground!

It is tricky and it's exhausting. Find that I just want to rush through my pregnancy and deliver baby which is such a shame as I'm not really feeling like I'm in a headspace where I can let go and enjoy the pregnancy as much as I would like to

It is a tough situation isn't it, thank you again for taking the time to reply

xx
