Eurovision buffet

Morning All!

This year is the first year my children are old enough to stay up for Eurovision and I'd like to do a European buffet for them to pick at as we watch. I'd like to take a 'swoop into Tesco and buy everything ready made' approach if possible, although simple assembly would be ok (I just don't want to spend ages cooking up fresh paella, for example!)

I'd love to hear your suggestions on what we could have to represent the various countries please

When I was pregnant we went to Sweden for the semi finals and had the best time. I do love Eurovision!

The best thing I discovered in Sweden was that they eat chips with bearnaise sauce which has now become my favourite thing. So that’s absolutely essential for Eurovision viewing in my house!

Go to IKEA, buy a load of their food and that’s (faux) Sweden covered 😬

The 'international food' section in Tesco could offer a few good options for eastern European snacks, sweets and pickles.

I don't know if Tesco have them, but Morrisons and Lidl at least have proper Portuguese custard tarts.

We generally do a normal buffet and add some dishes from the country hosting so this year I’m doing poffertjes and Apple tart , so nothing too adventurous .

we had exactly the same idea!! We are planning Spanish omelette, chorizo, palma ham, Italian rosemary crackers, 2 pack of breaded camembert bakes, pate, houmous, baba ganoush - that sort of thing x

Spanish omelette (Tesco do a lovely one you can just cut up), Italian olives 🫒 and antipasti meats, Swedish meatballs..maybe pick up some of the Eastern European stuff to try as there is usually a section filled with that.

Just googled where it is this year!

Definitely stroopwafels and fries with mayonnaise. Gouda/Edam on open rolls?

For other countries tapas, antipasti, Aldi for German sausages/hotdogs, salami etc?

I hope they have not been led to expect the Uk coming other than last or nearly last.

You'll need Vegemite given the Australians take part.

Thanks all! Some really good suggestions, I'll certainly check out the world food aisle and thanks for the reminder that I need something Australian!

I have not yet had 'the chat' with them about the intricacies of the voting system, but I will certainly manage their expectations on our likely placement hahaha!

I haven’t watched Eurovision since I was small but if there is an excuse for a buffet, I’m in! Grin

Definitely pastel de nata for Portugal. A Danish pastry for Denmark.
a plate of preserved meat products: chorizo, Parma ham, German salami, French saussicon sec, Greek olives.
