I want to buy my lovely neighbours some gifts for Eid but not quite sure when it is though I think its coming up soon.

Also are flowers and sweets or biscuits OK or should I get something else? .( will check they're vegetarian to save Halal issues)

Thanks

Ah that’s so thoughtful of you op. Eid will be celebrated on Thursday and all of your suggestions sound lovely. As well as vege please check that they don’t contain alcohol also Smile.

VanceRefridgeration · 11/05/2021 21:49

Google suggests it is Thursday but depends on moon sightings. Suggest you keep an eye on the news which generally reports on Eid when it's announced

listsandbudgets · 11/05/2021 21:56

Thank you. Yes, all the issues about the moon were causing me no end of confusion!

I will aim for Thursday then.. unless the moon has other ideas Smile

They didn’t see the moon tonight in Saudi so it’s Thursday.

Illstartexercisingtomorrow · 11/05/2021 22:36

Thursday.

Lovely idea - remember to check no alcohol if it’s eg chocolates you’re giving them

Just to jump on this thread slightly, is the correct greeting "Eid Mubarak"?

I work with some Muslim families so would be nice to mention it on Thursday!

H1978 · 11/05/2021 23:26

Eid is on Thursday for Saudi followers but maybe Friday for some.

converseandjeans · 11/05/2021 23:41

I think it's either Thursday or Friday - depends on moon & where you are from (well this is what I got told today).

Bidmass · 11/05/2021 23:42

@FakeTanandProsecco yes! You are correct. Eid Mubarak is the traditional greeting.

AnyFucker · 11/05/2021 23:48

Still to be decided...Thursday or Friday this week

@H1978

Eid is on Thursday for Saudi followers but maybe Friday for some.
We had a message from school asking parents to let them know which day(s) they would be celebrating Eid, so it had me wondering too.

Yes the Eid issue can be a little confusing. Some people will be celebrating it on Thursday and some on Friday. Those celebrating on Thursday will be doing so because their local mosque has chosen to follow the announcement by the holy mosque in Saudi Arabia, who sight it from their own country or don't always depend on the sighting of the moon (as they have an enormous amount of people to cater for and therefore need to be organised).

Those celebrating on Friday usually depend on independent local moon sightings or their nearest Muslim country.

There is alot of flexibility and both are correct in their own way. It's just difficult when booking a day off from work. It's nice when there are 2 Eids because there are always friends/relatives celebrating the other day and therefore double the yummy food Grin
