I'm going to be a grandmother

I've known for ages but it's seemed so far off and now it's only weeks. Shock I'm not ready. Grin

It's not what I would have chosen as DS and his ex-girlfriend are still teenagers, but it's all outside of my control so I'm just going to enjoy the good bits as much as I can.

This baby is going to have 6 grandmothers (2 regular and 4 great-grandmothers). That's a LOT of knitting, crocheting and quilting making. Grin

Congratulations!

This happened to my MIL, not an ideal situation but the baby is the best thing to happen to the family

Congrats, the baby will be a lovely new addition to your family. 🙂

Congratulations @BlackAmericanoNoSugar think of the baby cuddles! How is your DS and mum to be feeling?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/05/2021 19:33

Thanks AhaShakeHeartbreak12. I'm hopeful that it's going to be more fun than drama. The other grandmother and I get along very well, so that's helpful. I think DS is feeling a little panicky about being a parent, which is understandable as he is still a child himself, and a very immature one who needs lots of parenting himself. But he won't be left along to fend for himself and a child so hopefully he'll come to terms with it.

Congratulations OP, it’s the best job in the world being a grandmother! Smile

Fixitup2 · 11/05/2021 19:35

Congratulations. My children also have 6 Grandmas, and 4 Grandads. It’s lovely

Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 19:35

You sound a brilliant mother and soon to be grandmother and I’m sure your son will find his feet quickly with good support behind him.

One of the great grandmothers doesn't know yet that she's going to be a great grandmother. DH's Mum lives in Asia and is quite an old-fashioned Indian lady who is deeply religious. She once told my SIL that married women shouldn't leave the home after 7pm unless accompanied by their husband. So goodness knows how she would react to a teen pregnancy. But she's thousands of miles away and it's my DH's decision on how to handle it, not mine.

My Mum is thrilled. We were quite old when we adopted and our DC are her only grandchildren. So she was much later to grandmother-hood than all of her friends but she's beating most of them to great-grandmother-hood. Grin

I was 18 when I had my 1st Dc.
My parents were married at 17&21, My mother was 18 having me.
I made her a Grandmother at 36 & my father was 41!

They are now mid-late 50' have 9 Grandchildren so far (a few more likely in future) and absolutely love it!

Sadly, 3x of my DGP have passed and my DC only have the one GGP surviving, In that respect How lovely to have 6 grandmothers to see your DGC.
Congratulations

Mum-to-be needs another scan before her due date and her Mum can't take her so I'm going to. I said I wouldn't mind if she didn't want me to go into the actual scan with her, but she said she's fine with it and I'm stupidly excited about it. Grin

Congratulations! I became a grandmother for the first time last year, my DS was 19 at the time and he's turned out to be a fantastic hands on dad. He and his fiancé lived at home initially so they could save for a bond on their own place, and moved out just after Christmas.

I'm soon to have another grandchild as my DD (same age) is having her baby in a matter of days.

I initially though oh gawd I'm not ready for this, I still have young children at home myself! I figured it would be a while yet before the older ones started producing! But I absolutely love being a gran, and I have my baby grandson to stay for the weekend every few weeks to give his mum and dad a break.

It's an exciting time for all and you sound like a lovely mum so I'm certain you'll make a fab gran!
