Do you like your siblings?

Just that really!

I like one of mine. The other one I love, but don't like very much, with, imo, good reason.

Sibling 1 - definitely do not like! Bulllying, entitled, selfish, zero empathy for others, a compulsive gambler and a criminal. Honestly not sure if I love them either😬 I'd be devastated for my parents if anything happened to them though, because ironically they are the 'golden child'🙄.

Sibling 2 - I always get along with when we're together. We used to be very close but don't see each other much now. Love and like (most of the time😂).

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 11/05/2021 20:46

Dunno. I don't know any of them.Grin

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 11/05/2021 20:51

I love 4 out of 9.

Juanbablo · 11/05/2021 20:53

Yes. I have one younger brother. We hated each other growing up and fought terribly but we get on really well now. I think he's a great person.

lachy · 11/05/2021 21:00

I don't dislike my sister but I'm not especially bothered about her or her family. I have only seen her once since Christmas 2019.

She's very self centred and I find her difficult to be around.

underneaththeash · 11/05/2021 21:01

I really like all my siblings. It’s never occurred to me not to like them!

SionnachRua · 11/05/2021 21:03

I cut ties with one a few years ago, best thing I ever did. He's an abusive cunt who had everything handwaved away because autism (now before someone says it, of course the vast majority of people with autism aren't like that). If he died tomorrow I'd genuinely throw a party.

The other one I adore and would do anything for.

LadyJaye · 11/05/2021 21:06

Yep - in the very fortunate position of being friends as well as siblings!

We have a lot in common (like the same music, hobbies, share similar politics etc). We've lived together, we go on nights out together, we go on holiday together, we deal with my rather challenging mother as a team!

I appreciate I'm very lucky, though. I know a lot of people who really don't get on with their siblings and in some case actively dislike them.

Serena1977 · 11/05/2021 21:06

I tolerate my brother for family harmony for my widowed dm but I imagine it'll be just a Christmas card when dm passes away which is fine. I

He is selfish, greedy and patronising man.

Justcashnosweets · 11/05/2021 21:08

I love them both dearly, like one immensely, they are my best friend. The other one can be a right dick head, and find myself irritated by them frequently.

Curioushorse · 11/05/2021 21:08

Oh. This is so interesting.

I was really close to my sibling as a child. However, they are now incredibly successful in life, and, actually quite high profile. As is my SiL. They earn significantly more than most people, and are very much intellectually better than most people.

.....including us. To be honest, we're not as bright as them, and we just don't have much in common any more (I don't think there are many people they do have much in common with!).

I don't really enjoy being around them as SIL clearly thinks we're idiots, and we have very little to say to my brother.....because he knows everything.

What does everyone do about their nephews/nieces in this situation? I still want to remain in contact, but without seeing very much of my sibling or SIL?

AmandaPlease · 11/05/2021 21:09

Yes, love them! I also respect and admire them as people - they're a good laugh, generous and loyal.

RaraRachael · 11/05/2021 21:13

I'd love to have a really good relationship with my sister. There are two sisters I know who are like best friends too and their kids are really close to their cousins.

I just can't trust my sister. She is likely to twist things I say and repeat them to cousins and I feel like I'm the outcast.

It's too late and there's too much muddy water under the bridge for me be close to her. I won't lose any sleep over it though.

I think it's almost impossible to maintain a relationship with nieces and nephews when they're still small children, unless you get on with the sibling who is their parent tbh, sadly.

When nieces and nephews are older, obviously they can choose whether or not they have a relationship with aunts and uncles.

No.

I wish I did. Big age gaps between us all and very different personalities and interests. My oldest sibling has said many times that they would have been happier as an only child. Thinking about it, I think I would have been happier as an only too. At least there would have been no passive aggressive arguments at Christmas!

halfhope · 12/05/2021 00:18

No. One sister. Parents didn't get on and had a divide and conquer policy with us. I don't want anything bad to happen to her but sadly there is no relationship.

mianthracite · 12/05/2021 00:25

I don't like my brother at all, but he lives abroad and I don't have anything to do with him except at rare family functions.

I get on with my 2 sisters, but I have very little in common with them and we have completely different values and interests. I don't think we'd ever be friends if we weren't related, but we have a sense of duty to each other and get on enough when we get together in a family group.

JackieTheFart · 12/05/2021 00:32

Yep. Sister two years younger I am much closer to than bro who is 8 years younger. We all live a distance from one another which can be upsetting as we have a great time when we’re together.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/05/2021 00:34

Nope.

The last time I saw him was my Dad’s funeral which was six and a half years ago.

He didn’t show up to my wedding.

He’s not in my life, and that’s fine by me. These days I just think of myself as an only child.

MadMadMadamMim · 12/05/2021 00:36

I can't stand my sister. I don't dislike my brother, but we've little in common, bar the fact that we're related. I'm not convinced we'll stay in touch once parents pass away as we only see each other at family dos organised by DM. I don't have a phone number for either sibling and have never been interested enough to ask for one.

Littleroundsponge · 12/05/2021 00:44

Yes, me and my brother are very close. He is my best friend and I couldn't imagine life without him. Feel very lucky to have him in my life.

Lofari · 12/05/2021 00:57

Nope. One flits in and out of my life and always has. The other abandoned me when my boy was diagnosed with a life limiting condition.
Good riddance.

partyatthepalace · 12/05/2021 01:11

Yes I do and am v fond of her. We are v different.

The other one I was also fond of, but he was a PITA.

Strokethefurrywall · 12/05/2021 01:19

Love and adore my siblings. Even though my younger brother died a few years back, my sister and I remain close and we’re also all close to our SIL, even though he’s been gone 8 years.

I live 5000 miles away and we’re still exceptionally close, as I am to my extended family as well.

Saffy901 · 12/05/2021 02:04

I have 2 younger brothers (the youngest is actually my half-brother but I’ve never thought of him as a “half” sibling).
The youngest is 10 years younger than me but we get on really well and have lots in common.
The relationship with my other brother has been difficult but we’ve always been civil. He thinks the world revolves around his little family and sees our parents as nothing more than free childcare. I only really see him if we happen to visit our parents at the same time - we’d never plan to meet up.
