Do you like your siblings?

Just that really!

I like one of mine. The other one I love, but don't like very much, with, imo, good reason.

I've only the one and no he is an awfully twister and bitter individual and spews vile and hate in my direction when ever he sees me.

KFleming · 11/05/2021 17:48

I don’t actively dislike them. But if we weren’t sisters and instead knew each other some other way then we wouldn’t be friends.

Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 17:49

Love my sister to bits. She’s my best friend. We have different interests but very similar personalities and I would do anything for her. Also love her husband and my nephew.

Really like one of my BILS but cannot stand the other or his girlfriend. I think it’s mutual but I don’t care. I’m civil for DH although he doesn’t like them either. We keep the peace for his parents really.

LuckyMcDucky · 11/05/2021 17:53

I think if it's possible to keep the peace, it's a good thing. Not always possible though!

No. All insufferable!

Passionfruitpizza · 11/05/2021 17:56

Meh not particularly. Caring about and liking are two different things.

Crocidura · 11/05/2021 17:57

Three siblings and I like one of them.

(The one I like only likes me too. The other two don't really have a relationship with each other, so would probably say they disliked all three of their siblings.)

LuckyMcDucky · 11/05/2021 17:58

Yes, I agree! I care about both my siblings, but only like one of them.

No, but he hates women, equality and any kind of feminism. He’s also transphobic and homophobic and seems to consider online trolling of these groups, and any religious groups, a sport. His beliefs are appalling.

He’s also an ungrateful prick. Never says thank you, never makes any effort to communicate, but expects the world to go to him constantly. I used to spend a lot of time looking after him, cleaning his house etc but never got thanked once. In fact when he came out of hospital he complained I hadn’t done it well enough, despite me making a daily two hour round trip to look after the house and his cat whilst working full time and having my own family of six at home.

He’s just not a very nice person so I’m very low contact now.

GillBiggeloesHair · 11/05/2021 18:01

Yes he's lovely, as is his wife.

Katieweasel · 11/05/2021 18:01

Love mine both to bits. We are 3 completely different personalities but somehow it just works

Redandpink · 11/05/2021 18:03

I have 3 brothers and 1 sister. 2 of my brothers are good people. They moved abroad for work and they are good people. I was a home bird and stayed at home. I enjoyed my work too and didn't have a reason to up and move. I'm sorry I didn't.

I have one sister and the relationship has been strange for about a decade. Its very difficult between us. I think there is a personality disorder with her.

I have 1 brother at home and I'm coming to realise that he's not a very nice person. I hate saying it. I always try and look at the positives in people and pick out the good.. We probably all have bad aspects of our personalities but I'm failing to be positive about this man. He's lazy, he sleeps all day, he has a cocky attitude whenever we do pass each other. My mother allows him to live rent and bill free and he refuses to help with some jobs and maintenance of the property like grass cutting. He's a user.

Redandpink · 11/05/2021 18:08

The user brother I spoke about above is unemployed and he won't maintain the grass for our mother. He will issue lies no doubt this summer about poor health like a bad back just to avoid the job and gain sympathy when there's nothing wrong with him. He just doesn't want to help.

No

RaraRachael · 11/05/2021 18:14

I have one sister, 9 years older than me. Because of the age gap we grew up almost as only children. I don't have a lot in common with her and don't see much of her even though we only live 8 miles apart. She has form for telling lies and has been found out several times but completely denies it.
I'm not a believer in all that blood is thicker than water - you can choose your friends but not your family. We just happen to have been born to the same set of parents

CarolinaWeeper · 11/05/2021 18:40

This is a really interesting thread and has made me think. For me it's varied, I don't hate any of them and would happily spend time with them but we are very different people.

Sibling 1 - couldn't stand each other as teenagers, fought all the time. Things have mellowed since we both have had children but we're quite different. We have called each other for advice in the past though.

Sibling 2 - isn't a bad person at all but I find them self-obsessed and just a bit.....vain. Facebook is full of posed selfies and #blessed. I find it cringeworthy.

Sibling 3 - love them and always been close but sadly we live in different countries and only see them very rarely. Wish we lived closer.

To be fair they probably would say I'm a bossy old know-it-all so I'm sure the mixed feelings work both ways. Grin

BeautyQueenIamNot · 11/05/2021 18:45

No.

One is an a arsehole with a serious holier than thou attitude - he criticises my life, my house, my career, the way I parent my children just about everything and his wife isn’t much better - have very little contact.

The other will chat with when I see them but again nothing in common and a 8 year age gap.

I don’t seek out the company of my siblings probably never will.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 11/05/2021 18:49

Yes, I love and like both of mine very much. My life is better and happier for knowing them. My dh would say the same about his two.

No, I have one sister and have not spoken to her in about 4 years. Following years and years of constantly dealing with her issues and crises, police, battered partners, betrayed friends and hurt family I completely cut my ties. Have no interest in ever being in the same room with her again and I'll go to my grave satisfied that I did all I could and cut ties for the sake of my MH and that of my family.

Just as a side, I see a PP has mentioned the saying 'Blood is thicker than water' and found it interesting to recently discover that this originally meant the opposite of what we assume today - "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" meaning that bonds that you’ve made by choice are more important than the people that you are bound to by the water of the womb... it's a nice thing to know when people give me a hard time about being NC with my sister.

ouchmyfeet · 11/05/2021 18:56

I like one of them. The other is massively self indulgent/self obsessed and tedious.

Dontknowowt · 11/05/2021 18:58

I love my older brother but he's autistic so don't really have a relationship with him in the traditional sense.

NickyHeath · 11/05/2021 18:59

Yes, I’m close to both siblings.

Goldensunnydays81 · 11/05/2021 19:02

I have 3 full siblings 2 of them I speak to pretty much everyday and my other brother a couple of times a month and then 2 half siblings ( one is younger than my son) that I don’t speak to very often but would do anything for!

FourTurnings · 11/05/2021 19:02

I idolised them both when I was little. Now I realise that due to reasons beyond my control neither of them were interested in me or in developing a relationship with me. One couldn’t have, anyway. He couldn’t have normal relationships with others. He’s dead now. The remaining one lives abroad.
