Errrrr.....where did my parmesan rind go?

Saw a suggestion online to chuck the rind off the parmesan into bolognese as its simmering, then fish it out when ready to serve.

Well....its disappeared. Melted in its entirety into said bolognese in the slow cooker. My whole house stinks of parmesan. It's going to be hideous right?!

Have you tasted it?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/05/2021 16:04

I'm too scared to.

It will be fabulous

SoddingWeddings · 11/05/2021 16:07

Ooh, interesting. Not heard of this before, but can imagine it would be good.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/05/2021 16:07

It tastes divine Blush

But the parmesan stench in the house will take days to subside.

I also diced in loads of chorizo so that's helping.

Ooh I bet it's lovely and savoury...

You'll get noseblind to the parmesan smell soon, no bother Grin

BarbaraofSeville · 11/05/2021 16:15

When I've done this, some of it melts and some of it remains in a thinner piece of parmesan. You might find it lurking in there eventually.

In our house it would end up in DPs portion. He always complains that he gets the cardoman pods from pilafs etc.

I made a big batch not so long ago where I cooked a load of chicken and spices, separated it into three portions, put two in the freezer and cooked the rest up with rice and DP had about a quarter of that, so a twelth of all the chicken and spice mix I'd started with. He still got 90% of the whole spices that went in the original batch Grin.

Yum, parmesan rind in bolognase is amazing! But yes, often melts away to nothing, don't panic!

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 11/05/2021 16:19

I've done this. It's amazing! It's a nice day today, so just open up the windows for a few hours

FinallyFluid · 11/05/2021 16:20

It is really good in homemade soup as well.

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 11/05/2021 16:25

All I can think about now is proper decent bolognese.

Particularly minestrone.

I have to save mine in a tupperware at the back of the fridge or dh goes raking for cheese and throws them away!

Also brilliant in a risotto... although I do chop them finely with a heavy knife or it won't melt if it's a big chunk. ...love that salty cheesyness...mmmmmm!!

My dh is the bits in food magnet in our house. Not always nice bits either (in shop bought stuff) Envy < not envy

Your spag Bol sounds amazing!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 11/05/2021 18:53

Sounds good. Light a couple of scented candles around the house or open the windows, torrential rain storms permitting.

Happylittlethoughts · 11/05/2021 19:25
