Interview at 11 today

I have an interview for a care assistant job today. I've been a SAHM for far to long and need to get back out there. I have done this job many years ago so have some experience.

The interview is via zoom which I've never used before so am nervous about that. I hate being on screen. I'm also worried about questions I can't answer. Really need a hand hold and advice of things to say but not to come across as a complete fool.

Good luck. Have a google at top 10 interview questions to see what you might be asked. Try to answer them by painting yourself in the best light possible.

Spied · 11/05/2021 10:33

Awareness of safeguarding is something they will look favourably on.
Your awareness of confidentiality.
You're reliability ( you've got childcare covered)
You're willing to undertake any training necessary to update your skills.

Good luck.

Good luck with your interview! I think there is a way on Zoom where you can hide your own camera so you won't be able to see yourself (but the interviewers will still be able to see you) - you will only see them on screen so that may help you feel a bit more at ease. As @Brogues said, it's a good idea to have a good for interview questions and try have answers prepared for them as well as reading the role profile/doing a little bit of a research about the company/their ethos etc.

Palavah · 11/05/2021 10:35

You can 'hide self view' on zoom so you dont look at yourself.

It's fine to take a minute to consider your answer to the question. Have a paper and pen in front of you to write down the question, and any key points you want to get across.

PainterInPeril · 11/05/2021 10:37

Hi @yaddi I'm here to support you and cheer you on! Breathe.Grin Remind yourself of all your strengths. You can do this. Please let us know how it went. I hope it goes well!Smile

IdblowJonSnow · 11/05/2021 10:37

They might ask why you want the job and why you think you'll be good at the job.
Have you looked on their website to read up about them and what their mission statement is?
I wouldn't worry about it being on zoom. Deep breaths and good luck!
Please update! Smile

piglet81 · 11/05/2021 10:39

You can do it! Deep breaths beforehand, and tell yourself out loud ‘I can do this. I deserve this job!’

Good luck!

FoxtrotSkarloey · 11/05/2021 10:41

Remember to breathe, and that's it's ok to pause and take time to consider your answers.
I'd also agree with pp who suggested hiding the view of yourself.

Good luck.

yaddi · 11/05/2021 10:47

What can I ask them?

OP posts:
Brogues · 11/05/2021 10:50

Will you be working in a team? What does the team structure look like? When would they be looking for you to start? Will you get a handover?

yaddi · 11/05/2021 12:09

I felt like it went well. There are others being interviewed but should hear by Friday or Monday. I'm trying not to get my hopes up because if I'm not successful I will feel a big failure (I need a boost).

Tiredmum100 · 11/05/2021 12:13

Dont feel like a failure of you don't get it. Interviews are tough, especially online. I always go with the attitude it's experience of interview techniques if nothing else. I have been for 3 interviews to get to my current job level, each one I had feedback and improved on for next time. But you've said it went well so think postitive! Fingers crossed for you, good luck 🍀🍀

PainterInPeril · 11/05/2021 12:40

Well done! If you feel comfortable with how it went then you did a good job!SmileBrew Here have a cup of coffee, you deserve it!Grin

yaddi · 11/05/2021 13:07

Some of the questions....

How would your previous supervisor describe you in 3 words?

What's unique about you?

Describe a difficult situation at work and how you dealt with it.

Can't quite remember my responses but I don't think I stumbled to much. I feel more sick now than before the interview.

OP posts:
yaddi · 17/05/2021 17:55

I was told I'd hear by Friday or Monday. I've not heard anything back so it looks like I didn't get the job. I thought I'd get a response either way though. I'm trying not to take it to hard. Back to square 1 again.

Brogues · 17/05/2021 18:57

If it was a flat out no then you’d have heard already. Is it a big company? Sometimes they have to have meetings to score you against a matrix which takes some arranging with everyone’s availability.

yaddi · 18/05/2021 07:19

It's a care home, I'm still holding on to a tiny wine bit of hope as I know the manager there is stretched very thin at the moment and is playing catch up on everything. Bit of a long shot I know.

OP posts:
yaddi · 18/05/2021 09:31

I just heard that I got the job!

The manager was off ill yesterday which was why I didn't hear until this morning.

I'm a bit scared now getting back into the big wide world after so long.
