Being contacted about car sold 5 years ago.

Not sure whether to worry about this or not.

I sold a car through a private sale 5 years ago. Sent all the paperwork off and didn’t hear anything else.

I’ve had a Facebook message request today from somebody I don’t know asking if the car - photo and car reg my old one - used to belong to me.

Does anybody have any idea why they may want to contact me? The sensible side of me says to ignore but the other part is really curious!

I was contacted some time after selling a car to see if I had the spare key for it, as it was sold to them with only one. I hadn't.

Perhaps they want to know the background? Maybe they only have five years of service history being offered. Reply to them and then you’ll know.

I'd completely ignore it!

Maybe they found something down the back of the seat?

My dad had the same thing a few weeks ago - except the new owner came to his house!

There was little service history available so the chap wanted to know if my dad had any documents. It being so long ago, there was nothing, and the man drove off.

Very odd at the time!

Maybe it has been sold on to someone else and they have your name on previous papers and want to check service history. I'd ignore the message unless you have any information about your car that may benefit anyone 5 years after selling it.

I’m amazed it’s still running it was an M reg!

Think I may just leave it. I have nothing useful to tell anybody about it.

I was contacted two years after selling a car to a reputable Ford garage in part exchange. The AA had to tow the car onto the garage forecourt as the engine had basically given up. The garage gave me their minimum trade-in price as the cae was going for scrap.
Two years later I was contacted by the police. Far from being scrapped, the car had been sold at auction and had been used as a taxi in Leeds. The paperwork said I was the previous owner, but luckily I had the paperwork to prove it had gone legitimately to the garage.
