Has anyone had a gastric sleeve/band on the NHS?

Not looking for opinions on this right now or advice in how to lose weight without 'resorting to this', thankyou :)

Just looking to hear the experiences of people that have had this operation through the NHS.

Procedures, wait times, assements etc...

I've been referred today to weightloss services as my BMI is over 40, I've also been given orlistat to hopefully lose 5%.
Have been referred to an 8 week nutrition programme which is a precursor to bariatric surgery services.

I got referred but the wait time is so long to actually get surgery that I went private in the end.

My friend did about 4 years ago. It was a long process that took about two years with counselling sessions and other support.

Friend of mine did, She was waiting about 4 years I think but was doing various other prep things for the two years before hand, ( counselling etc)

I've had it done but privately. Paid £10k and from deciding I wanted it to operation was six weeks. My surgeon worked NHS too and said wait was over two years. No way I could've waited. Best debt I ever got into.

My friend joined a Facebook group which she found useful before and after the procedure.

I can deal with 2 years.

Unfortunately I am in no position to go private. I don't have £500, never mind £10k :( and can't even get a couch on finance 😂

There's a great thread over in the weight loss board. We've had gastric sleeves either from NHS/abroad/Private so you'll get lots of help there!

I'm hopefully about to be signed off by the nutritionist to go on the waiting list, a year and a half after my initial hospital appointment. Its a long process, made longer by covid, but it will be worth it in the end.

I keep looking at Turkey and wondering if my parents would lend me the 3k it's such a long wait on NHS but could never afford private in Uk
