Looking for ideas for my DS's 1st birthday next month.
What did you guys do? Hard to choose as he doesn't understand but feel we need to mark the occasion.

OP posts:

Bought myself a new skirt and had a glass of wine with a slice of cake Grin

Bugger all as we'd just entered lockdown. However, we had planned to have a small low key party with my mum friends and their kids

MeadowLines · 09/05/2021 12:29

Even outside of lockdowns, we never did anything massive for the first few birthdays - cake some presents and closest family came round, and that was more than enough. Anything more than this is for the parents or for showing off really

Just had Ds last week. We just had 2 neighbours over for some cake and champagne ( max numbers allowed here).
Then just took him to a local little farm today.

Orangebug · 09/05/2021 12:32

The child isn't aware, so this one is for you OP to celebrate however you like - you'll have lots of years ahead of kids' birthday parties! For DD we had a lovely day out with all her grandparents and godparents and plenty of cake and fizz.

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 09/05/2021 12:41

Agree with Orangebug. Do whatever you want for this one! Long time since DD's 1st birthday but we had brunch in a nice cafe with a few family & friends including a couple with babies/toddlers, took along a birthday cake & sang happy birthday, then went for a walk in park across the road.

linerforlife · 09/05/2021 12:41

We've a first birthday in our house next month too and we are going all out with a party... and yes it's 100% for us as parents as the baby won't remember!! But these lockdown babies have not been celebrated. No christenings or family gatherings not even family around at Christmas!! So I cannot wait to celebrate with friends and family that my beautiful baby is 1!

bunglebee · 09/05/2021 12:43

We made a cake shaped like a duck and had a little tea party with DGPs.

Honestly the baby absolutely doesn't know, so have whatever kind of celebration you want for you. I had no interest in a big fuss or stress so we didn't have one.

Family popped in and out during the day. Cake (not extravagant) and a few presents.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 09/05/2021 12:51

Made a little cake and bought new toys, they have no idea of the day themselves so anything OTT is purely for parents and SM imo.

sunnysidegold · 09/05/2021 12:54

We invited grandparents for afternoon tea. Had a bit of birthday cake.
