I was watching an old Top of the Pops episode earlier. I always wanted to be in the audience! Did anyone on here get to go on? What was it like??

My sister went to one in the sixties when it was filmed in Manchester. The Hollies were top of the bill, and we watched it and saw her dancing in the background! No way of recording it in those days, sadly.

I too would love to know what it was like. What was the minimum age?
I once shared the audience waiting room with the TOTP audience when I was waiting to see the Jonathan Ross show in 2006.
My MIL attended one in the 60's when they recorded it in Manchester. She saw Paul McCartney sing and they were instructed to sit at his feet.

I went to the Christmas special in 2014. It was fun... the set was much smaller than I thought it would be. Gabrielle Aplin had to perform twice so they could record two intros in case she got to Christmas No. 1... Girls Aloud had to perform twice because they were so shit.

I went when I was 14 in 1974. It was quite an interesting experience. Mott the Hoople were on, we sat round in circles on the floor waving our arms around to Seasons in the Sun under the direction of Pan's People. The Glitter Band were on (sans Gary), I don't remember who the DJ was. Sadly number one was Little Jimmy Osmond which was not only shite but was a film

I went a couple of times. Blur sang Parklife with Phil Daniels on one. Jarvis Cocker and take that were on another, he was really nice.
Tbh I mainly remember the studio being tiny, being almost more excited you can see glimpses of the Eastenders set as you arrive and that it was a total pain in the arse to get there on the tube.
