Looking for a movie that would entertain fussy teens, 9yo and myself.

Non cartoon as it’s quite nice we can watch actual films now and we have done Disney and Pixar to death.

Previous films that have been enjoyed.

The Help
Interstella
Miss Potter
Pursuit of Happiness
Goodnight Mr Tom
Lion

I’ve looked at Bohemian Rhapsody twice but feel might be a bit much for youngest however would love to find something with a music theme as all 3 girls musical.

Enola Holmes
The Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Back to the Future was a big hit here. It really caught their imaginations and they loved Doc Brown. Hard to follow The Princess Bride, but as you wish Grin

Hamilton perhaps?

@ShivRoy

The Mitchells vs The Machines is brilliant
We've just finished watching this and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I caught the last half of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Perfect wet afternoon film imo.

You follow The Princess Bride with The Princess Bride: Home Movie on YouTube. My DC loved recognising the actors and Westley playing Humperdinck blew their minds.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 08/05/2021 23:45

If you can find it, Flight of the Navigator.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 08/05/2021 23:46

If you can tolerate a cartoon - The Book of Life

The Biggest Little Farm; a great documentary about regenerative farming.

TheNestedIf · 09/05/2021 01:31

Most of my family friendly choices have already been mentioned so I'm going to go off-piste and suggest "Monsieur Hulot's Holiday" (vimeo or apple).

Thoughtsfortheday · 09/05/2021 08:16

Thanks everyone, we went for Gravity as a second movie, was ok. 😬

Taken a few down for next time as lots of good suggestions!!

Home Alone though?!

Is it not illegal to watch that anytime other than Christmas Eve?! 😳

Hunt For The Winderpeople. It is a delight.

Puddletown · 09/05/2021 09:28

Eurovision - similar ages to you and we all loved it

MissBattleaxe · 09/05/2021 21:54

Mr Bean's holiday made us all laugh age 10 to 54. Also Johnny English , The Meg, Pete's Dragon - the newish live action one.

MissBattleaxe · 09/05/2021 21:55

Oh yes Eurovision was great!

Tolouse · 10/05/2021 11:22

We watched Instant Family thanks to this thread last night. We really enjoyed it. Bit of bad language in case that bothers anyone.

Some great suggestions on this thread. I have a list!! We loved Into the Spidyverse. Cartoon but very cool and cleaver.

pursuedbyablackdog · 10/05/2021 12:15

I know you posted a on Saturday op but these might be worth a punt:
Nuns on the run... there is a bit of swearing (no f-word, but shit comes in a few times!) but fab film which both dc (8 & 10) really love.
Dd (10) also likes: time bandits/ never ending story / four children and IT (modern version of 5 children and IT (also good film) flight of the navigator, short circuit and back to the future (I know these are older films, but still good on a rainy day!)
Also TV series: Demon head master (old and new versions) Tom's midnight garden, the moon dial, round the twist (currently available on Amazon prime).

EvelynBeatrice · 10/05/2021 12:22

Furry Vengeance went down well for us with mixed group kids this age and adults. Funny.

Thoughtsfortheday · 15/05/2021 15:24

Guys I’m reigniting this thread as it’s another wet Saturday afternoon and there’s only one thing for it...

Any more movie suggestions!!
