Looking for a movie that would entertain fussy teens, 9yo and myself.

Non cartoon as it’s quite nice we can watch actual films now and we have done Disney and Pixar to death.

Previous films that have been enjoyed.

The Help
Interstella
Miss Potter
Pursuit of Happiness
Goodnight Mr Tom
Lion

I’ve looked at Bohemian Rhapsody twice but feel might be a bit much for youngest however would love to find something with a music theme as all 3 girls musical.

Kangaroo jack is a much loved film in our house!

SummerSazz · 08/05/2021 19:30

@Thoughtsfortheday

We went for The princess Bride but feel like it feels a two movie night tonight!!!
Princess Bride is my favourite film ever! We've also liked:

Enola Holmes
Spy
Paul

The latter two have some swearing but are excellent

NoSquirrels · 08/05/2021 19:33

Enola Holmes was excellent. Also Little Women, and the Amazing Adventures of David Copperfield.

Have you seen Jojo Rabbit? Surprise hit here even at younger ages.

I'd also second Cool Runnings and also Mamma Mia

sundaylunday · 08/05/2021 19:37

We've been watching a lot of disaster films lately which we've all enjoyed:

  • day after tomorrow
  • San Andreas
  • deep impact
  • Greenland
  • 2012
  • geostorm
  • twister
  • gravity
MrsTerryPratchett · 08/05/2021 19:41

You're going to try to FOLLOW the Princess Bride with another film? Good luck with that! It's perfect.

Restlessinthenorth · 08/05/2021 19:42

Twist is great! All our family really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend

Another vote for School of Rock!

PurpleWh1teGreen · 08/05/2021 20:18

What about classics like ET and Ghostbusters? Honey I shrunk the kids, jumanji,

the imitation game, Apollo & hidden figures for something a bit more educational.

Goldenphoenix · 08/05/2021 20:37

Enola Holmes

fluffysocksgoodbookwine · 08/05/2021 20:44

Real Steel is good, my 11yr old DS loved it (and has Hugh Jackman!)

poshme · 08/05/2021 20:45

Shameless placemark to find later.

Great thread OP

Lots of good ones here.

We also enjoy Robin Hood men in tights!

Leeds2 · 08/05/2021 21:51

The War With Grandad.

Carrotsoupispoo · 08/05/2021 21:59

The three musketeers- kiefer Sutherland version is a lot of fun
The new star trek film films with Chris Pine
Mask of Zorro - Antonio Banderas version
Enola Holmes is a recent favourite
Robin Hood prince of thieves

We are an action movie family!

MissBattleaxe · 08/05/2021 22:15

Miss Peregrine's school for peculiar children, Jack the Giant Slayer, Lost in Space, though it's a series not a film, Maleficent, agree with all the Jumanji films, even the Robin Williams one, and the Rocky films.

MissBattleaxe · 08/05/2021 22:16

Bridge to Terabithia is very sad by the way. I couldn't watch it twice.

HappyHedgehog247 · 08/05/2021 22:16

Enola Holmes?

DamSky · 08/05/2021 22:22

Green book is similar to the ones you've listed.
Have you watched the cultural reference films - things like Back to the future, Forrest Gump.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/05/2021 22:30

I'm not a big fan of comic books but most of the marvel and dc films are great. Wonder woman and gardians of the galaxy are great.

I know you said no cartoons but Coco is fantastic. I've watched it loads, even without the kids.

Matilda

The parent trap

Harry Potter

Mean girls

Legally blonde

The breakfast club

Jurassic Park
