Grrr... spam phone calls on BT

DinosaurDiana · 08/05/2021 09:43

Every pigging Saturday morning we get multiple spam calls on the land line.
I’ve asked DH about unplugging the phone but he won’t hear of it. I have to bar the numbers after they have called.
Would I be unreasonable to LTB just on that ?

I unplugged my landline three years ago for exactly that reason. We never used it anyway, we only have it for the internet.

InkMaster · 08/05/2021 12:12

I've unplugged mine as well. It's literally pointless. It's always spam.

Things have moved on.

My granny grew up on a farm and they had a telegram boy. But things have moved on.

Tambora · 08/05/2021 12:21

Let him answer the phone all the time. Perhaps he'll get fed up with it after a while.

murbblurb · 08/05/2021 12:22

You'll get them whoever your provider is. Buy a cheapie call blocker on eBay, problem solved.

Talking on crappy mobiles is painful. If you want to talk, you need a landline.

He doesn’t get up before 10.30am 😡😡😡😡

We don’t actually use the landline, that’s why it’s ridiculous.

We never use the land line, but let the ansaphone click in. Real people leave a message. Spammers usually don’t, or are just gabble.

romdowa · 08/05/2021 12:30

Put the phone on silent before you go to bed on Friday night ?

DinosaurDiana · 08/05/2021 12:33

If I can find out how to mute it I will. Then, if someone leaves a message, the ansaphone will beep.

We've got Call Guardian. People have to announce who they are before the phone actually rings unless we have entered them into the phone book. It tells you if there have been calls that haven't made it through the screening process. Usually 2-3 each day, one day it was 8 and last weekend there was one at 6.45am! Best money spent!!

We have to keep the landline - two elderly mothers who won't ring mobiles.

DinosaurDiana · 08/05/2021 12:43

The thing is that no one rings our landline. Our family, school, doctor and dentist ring our mobiles.
The only people that ring our land line are people we haven’t seen for 10 years or so ( and often there’s a reason for that) and spammers.
I just don’t get his need to have a landline.

We always ignore the land line apart from 6 ish on a Sunday when it might be MIL. If it's important someone will leave a message.

Unfortunately we're now getting calls from China on our mobiles 😡

Unplug the phone but leave it there so he thinks it’s still working? Haven’t used my landline for years for the same reason.

Phyllidakettle · 08/05/2021 13:47

If you have Sky as your land line provider you can have Talk Shield for free. Not that I’m advertising for them or anything. If someone you don’t know calls it automatically asks them for a name and you can decide if you want to talk to them. The majority of the time scammers etc just hang up. You don’t even know they’ve tried to call you until you check your received calls on your account. Now nuisance calls are a thing of the past for me. There’s also a facility which allows you to store known numbers from people you want to talk to. That means when they call it puts them straight through without the security check first.

megletthesecond · 08/05/2021 13:48

You need to stop answering the phone. As far as I know they call more if they know its active.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 08/05/2021 13:59

He doesn’t get up before 10.30am

Then how would he know if you unplugged the phone when you get up? Is he selfish about other things too?

China now? I suppose all the "microsoft " indians are otherwise engaged. Oh well.
bellropes · 08/05/2021 14:56

I took a pair of scissors to ours after not being able to reach the plug. Dh discovered a few weeks later. I just shrugged, told him I'd had enough and fixed him up with my old smartphone. He just uses his mobile now. He got used to it.
