I knew one at school and I know one as an adult. I think that's it.

A few but all ancient due to Elizabethan i think marriages where wife had more money to make sure her family were still recognised..

BillieSpain · 07/05/2021 23:20

Absolutely everyone in Spain. Also most European countries I believe.

My DH (surname) My name (surname) equals DD surname. By law.

We don't change our surname on marriage. Seems so odd to me now that in the UK you do.

My bit of the surname will be dropped when she gets married as far as her child is concerned.

I have a friend with a double barrelled surname that her parents made up when they got married Confused

I know some more with old double barrel names, but I thought op only wanted those where it was a new double barrel.

I am taking this VERY seriously Grin

Me and my children, and yes it’s both parents names together. I took my husbands name and kept mine too.

MindtheBelleek · 07/05/2021 23:25

Every Spaniard I know. My own DS, who has both our surnames. My nephew, who has DB’s surname and his mother’s. I reckon at least half of DS’s class at school (fairly international). A few people of both sexes who added their spouses’ surnames to theirs.

MichelleScarn · 07/05/2021 23:26

@parisencore shall now out then, I do feel it upsets/frightens some to know we have huge amount of rah-dom up in Scotland so interject far too often!

MichelleScarn · 07/05/2021 23:27

Shall bow out i mean, spell check is a dick.

ParisEncore · 07/05/2021 23:28

Spell check is SUCH a dick! I enjoyed your randomness so don't bow out!!

Camomila · 07/05/2021 23:29

Both my DSs Smile

And lots of DC at school/nursery actually.

Fifthtimelucky · 07/05/2021 23:30

My great aunt and uncle were double barrelled. They'd be about 120 if still alive and it may have been surname-combining but if so it would have been done by earlier generations.

I don't know anyone my age (60) who is double barrelled. I know people my age who have combined their surnames to give their children double barrelled names though.

Bloodybridget · 08/05/2021 02:11

Two, in both cases their father's name. Upper middle class English.

BloodyGoodRep · 08/05/2021 06:51

I know one woman and that’s through marriage. I literally don’t know one of adult or child!

BloodyGoodRep · 08/05/2021 06:51

Other*

workwoes123 · 08/05/2021 07:16

Lots. I live in France, many unmarried couple friends / married woman who have kept their own name have given their children both surnames. It’s really common here.
